It looks perfect. I have a book copyright 1955 that shows this harness.

I have been informed by "Bajahaha1" that the previous description of my ebay purchased "Mega-cool back pack" (see attached) is incorrect. Here is the correct information on this antique harness:

"It is NOT a 1955 model--those seen in various books were made from modified WW11 US Army mountaineering back packs.

The unit you are displaying is a US Divers model # 0666-03 "2 in 1 PAC." It can be viewed on page 7 of the 1962 catalog. The listed price was $22.00 for the single or double tank model.

In early 1960s US Divers, under the direction of John Culley displayed yellow and black as the company colors of their products. They immediately became known as the "Great Yellow importer," since many of their products came from the US Divers affilate in Japan, Nipon Aqua Lung and to a lessor degree from Aqua Lung du Brazil.

So any time you see yellow and black it is a reasonable assurance that the product is US Divers and it generally can be dated from around the early 1960s

In the 1963 it is listed as #0817 for the single tank model and 0817-40 for the double tank model with a priceing of $17.50 and $25.00 this model had yellow cloth shoulder and crotch strap and a black 2 inch waist band.

The first model of this unit appeard in the 1961 US Diver catalog as#816 as the Aqua Lung "2 in 1 Pac" it appeared on page 8 and listed for $19.95. This, the first model had all black webbing harness.

These were not popular units, however, they were probably the most confortable units ever produced and marketed by US Divers."

Thank you Bajahaha1.

I don't purchase anything second-hand as I believe it is false economy !
Why purchase somebody else's castoffs !
I bought a Halcyon BP, Harness, MC Pack, Liftbag, ACB 30 rig for $500. It appears brand new (just a few dives on it). Saved $500. The seller was switching to Trans Pac and I benefitted.

Most of my gear was obtained in this fashion - find something barely used at half of retail.

I bought 4 used regulator sets (2 with gauges) for half the price of a new one, brand-new overhaul kits for the regulators (that the LDS will not sell to me), a good used BC, dive computer, jet fins, and... a jet boat.

One man's trash is another man's treasure!

I have bought and sold off ebay for a while now and yes you do have to pay attention to whom and what you are getting but I have had no bad experiences.

On the scuba equipment question, I bought a complete reg/console set, including a US Diver Conself SE2 first and second stage with octo and Sherwood SPG, compass, depth gauge and bottom timer for 1/4 what a new req set up would have.

Only thing I had a problem with was the console broke into pieces when I pulled out the compass. Found out from a local dive shop that Sherwood's current SPG, depth gauge and compass are still the same size and I bought a new "holder" for $24 when I got them serviced.

Just be wise and check things out as much as you can before buying!!

Wow. This is an old thread...:D

Sorry but I can hardly pass up new in the box, or gear that was used less than 10x. Just set your limits for what the item is worth, and read feedback to protect yourself. I paid less than 1/3 of retail for my current setup and none was purchased used Best part is I am supporting local dive shops by buying someone else's over priced gear.
