Would people be so supportive of this board if they knew it was run by PADI or DUI or Aqualung or Scubapro? All of these organizations are in the San Diego area, which is where Neptune Divers is located. I'm not saying it is run by any of these companies, because I have no idea, but if it is, then I would start to question the objectivity of the moderators (sound familiar?).

Umm. I don't care if DUI, Aqualung, or Scubapro do run the site. I don't care if evil elves from elbonia run the site. I'd say the same for PADI, but I'm afraid that NAUI will revoke my certs.:D

I learn a lot here - A LOT, and am grateful to King Neptune and LadyDiver for their contribution to diving.

If you're really REALLY concerned about people selling your email address, you can get really sneaky and underhanded about it. you can go to www.hotmail.com and open up a hotmail account, or 2, or 3, or 4, etc, and use that account for just such things as registering for message boards.

As far as objectivity, I'm sure most people could tell if the board were biased. It's fairly obvious when people are censored in general, and you're always free to move on if you think it's getting draconian.

I like it here.

Then again, now that I found out that this board is based in San Diego, I'm starting to get worried:wacko:

Hey, now you have ME thinking; there's a big NAVY BASE down there in San Diego...
:tease:

Perhaps that explains the black MH-60 hovering outside my window whenever I log on to the Board.

If our resident rec.scuban conspiracy theorist is right, and he is not, then this must be the most inefficient and downright stupid means of gathering emails that I've ever seen. In the time I've been here, I've never gotten a single marketing email involving scuba diving, except for junk that DiversDirect.com sends me because I registered on their board.

I figured it out !!!

Pop-under ads!!

The last time I closed scubaboard, a window for a travel site popped up.

So kiddies, that's how you get to thank King Neptune and Lady Diver for "giving" you this place. You can visit your friendly, neighborhood travel-spam site and let them book your next dive trip.

(I wonder if this post is a TOS violation :-)

That's funny. Never happens to me.

Perhaps it was from a different site and was under the window in which SB was displayed. I've had that happen.

Regardless, stop playing with yourself. Either deal with the terms and conditions or leave and start your own board.

A - Unlike you, my wife obviates the need for me to do that.

B - Why would I bother to start my own board or bother to deal with the "terms and conditions" here, when rec.scuba is just fine, has no silly restrictions, and eats people like you for breakfast.

A. Thanks for sharing. (edited by request).

B. Well, I guess perhaps its because you've chosed to post here and are subject to whatever rules the powers that be choose to impose upon you. Your sole recourse is to cry like a child or leave.

I refrain from posting on rec.scuba because it is a vast wasteland with a high signal to noise ratio. For example, of the 25 most current threads, 10 have some connection to scuba diving. If I wanted to exchange four letter words over the internet, I would do so. Instead, I'd rather dive.

Why you feel the need to troll is beyond me. However, there is no question in my mind that you are lying regarding the pop-ups.

Edit: Removed original comment since it no longer makes sense . Someone else has gone in and edited, NOT at my request, the section where I quoted NortheastWrecks.

The mysteries of Scubaboard.
