Hey fellow Michigan divers,

I wanted to share some exciting news: a major new scuba diving facility is in development — and it’s planned right here in Lansing, Michigan.

It’s called Triton Nexus™, and once completed, it will feature a massive indoor dive pool reaching a depth of 200 feet, making it one of the deepest in the world. The facility is being designed to run year-round and will include:

  • Recreational and technical dive zones
  • A scuba shop with multiple gear brands
  • Classrooms for dive certifications and refresh courses
  • A 24/7 fitness center called Triton Fitness
  • An emergency wing with two hyperbaric chambers
  • Themed underwater training platforms
  • A relaxing Fuel Up Station Café — perfect for recharging after a dive or before heading home

Right now we’re working with architects, city officials, and raising funds to bring it all together. I’m not asking anyone here for money — I just wanted to let Michigan divers know what’s coming.

If you’re curious or want to follow along, you can check out the official website:

I’ve also signed up to take business classes at Lansing Community College to help run it the right way and make sure the cost to attend stays fair. This is a big dream, and I’m doing everything I can to make it real — for all of us who love diving here in Michigan.

Thanks for reading,
Earl

Does your BP budget for your anticipated insurance costs? What’s your ballpark annual estimate?
Good question — yes, insurance is definitely something I budgeted for. The ballpark estimate I had for annual insurance was around $60,000–$120,000 depending on the final design, scuba-specific risks, medical readiness, etc.

The project itself stalled for now. Someone had promised to invest to help me start up Triton Nexus if I formed the LLC and covered all the initial startup basics, but they backed out. So I decided to pivot and start smaller: opening a fitness gym first, which was always part of the overall plan.

My goal is to grow that first gym, then a second and third, building a chain that can generate enough revenue and credibility to help raise seed capital and get angel investors or others to take notice and support the bigger vision. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try the SBA route.

Thanks for asking — it’s a long road but I’m still moving forward.

Good Morning, Very interesting project. How are you going to staff the hyperbaric chambers and emergency wing? are you going with multiplace chambers? May I recommend accreditation for hyperbaric wing, as michigan has been in the news lately for hyperbaric mishaps .

Thanks for the thoughtful question — I’m glad you asked about the emergency wing!

Our plan is to partner directly with the local fire department to manage and staff the hyperbaric chambers and the EMS/paramedic quarters. We’ll provide the space, crew quarters, storage, and a dedicated ambulance bay at no cost to them, so they can operate directly from our facility.

In return, they’d take full responsibility for hyperbaric chamber staffing and scheduling (ensuring proper accreditation and safety), run EMS operations, and we’d collaborate on CPR/first aid training programs for staff and divers.

It’s intended as a win-win: reliable medical support on-site and integrated directly with the city’s emergency response system, while also giving back to the community with classes and public safety programs.

After careful review, the deep dive pool vision is on hold indefinitely.
If the opportunity ever arises to realistically secure ~$50 million and build it properly,
I would be excited to revisit the project.
For now, I’m pivoting Triton Nexus to focus on something more immediately achievable.

What are you thinking of?

What are you thinking of?
Thanks for asking — I’m pivoting Triton Nexus to focus on a fitness center project in Lansing Mall.
The core idea of “Triton Nexus” as a place where people can train, connect, and challenge themselves still fits, just in a more achievable form right now.

If the opportunity ever comes up to realistically secure funding for the deep dive pool, I’d definitely love to return to it — but for now, my focus is building something sustainable and community-focused that I can actually execute today.

Since I already bought the LLC, LARA filing, business bank account, and started bootstrapping funds there, there’s no reason to let all that go to waste.
