For testing purposes, I would have only mounted the second stage on a hose finger-tight. Did the OP use two wrenches? Just curious.

The connections at both ends of the hose were made finger tight since I didn't have a wrench available and wasn't going to put pressure on it since I also didn't have a tank. Thought a loose connection was the problem when I did the initial vacuum check so I took the reg off the hose and placed my thumb over the hose fitting, trying the vacuum check again. Of course it still leaked due to do the crack. I didn't notice the crack until I got the reg under a bright light. Really wasn't expecting to find that so it was overlooked on first inspection.

Can't say for sure how the crack happened. I know I didn't do it. The box it came in is undamaged.

I sent the OP a PM, and will send him a new reg overnight shipping.

I can't wat to get his back and see it....:shake

head:

Reply PM sent to Chris at EDGE. Thanks for the lightening fast response.

You rock! Well, someone had to say it

I'm the one that posted those pics.
@TGreene: I just found your pics on this thread. I was kind of interested in a full-blown disassembly with things unscrewed from the valve spindle.

Your pics reveal what appears to be a barrel poppet design. Apeks has an odd tool that needs to be used in order to remove the spring adjuster -- the little black plastic thingy that screws into the end of the stainless steel adjusting knob. Essentially it allows a plastic-to-plastic contact on the counter balance cylinder (one end of the balance chamber). I wonder how easy it is to remove that little doodad on the HOG second stage

It's great to see that Chris is so accessible for customer service issues. Kudos to him for that.

I've only torn down as far as what you can see, so any other questions would have to be directed towards Chris...

easy as pie, no special tools required like the apeks.

It could be the exhaust valve that's folded over or the diaphragm might not be seated right. Or maybe a leak in the mouthpiece or the mouthpiece wiretie not tight enough.

Let us know.

Henrik

Yeah my exhaust valve was folder over when I got mine, easy fix
