it'd be fair to point out that a possible [or the] reason for the complaint to the ombudsman is due to the fact that NSAG can't even raise 20% of the required money to mount another court injunction for the sinking.

I find it quite distasteful that the referral has been advertised as an investigation by the media.... NSAG touting crap is one thing, major media outlets is another (e.g. Sydney Telegraph)

Group in final protest against warship sinking

Map: Avoca Beach 2251 A community group on the New South Wales central coast is making an 11th-hour attempt to stop the State Government sinking a decommissioned warship just offshore.

HMAS Adelaide is expected to be towed from Sydney Harbour at dawn on Monday morning and sunk off Avoca Beach on Wednesday.

After a year-long battle, the Avoca Beach No Ship Action Group is holding emergency meetings on Sunday morning to try to block the move via legal means.

Group spokeswoman Michelle Meares says towing the ship would be grossly irresponsible, given new evidence that has come to light.

She says there is a possibility of a full investigation by the NSW Ombudsman.

"We're looking at all option available to us basically people are extremely concerned," she said.

She says there is a growing trend of recycling old frigates and is calling on the new State Government to consider it as an option.

OMG they just won't give up.. I am having visions of them having rallies to force it to be refloated after it goes down!

Very much looking forward to this, everyone I talk to about it on the Coast seems pretty confident that it will happen this time! Heres hoping.
