Hi all !

My name is Sharmin, I'm 23 and only new to the diving scene. My 2 girlfriends and I are heading over to Central America for 9wks in March and all think it would be great place to start diving. We are defintiley going to Utila in Honduras first, as that is supposedly a very cheap place to get certified. Then we hope to dive some more throughout our trip thru Guatemala, Mexico & Cuba.

From there, I actually head to NY to live and work for 18mths as a physio. I know NOBODY in NY, so it's a pretty daring move!

So if anyone has any tips on diving in Utila and other Central American places, please post me a note!

Cheers

Sharmin

Welcome aboard Sharmin!

I haven't been to Utila...yet...but I have been to Belize. From what I hear, you would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful place to start your life as a diver. ;)

As for Central America, aside from Belize, I have also dove Costa Rica, on the Pacific. Vis over there is probably not what you are used to, averaging around 50', but what it loses in vis, water temp, and reef structure, it makes up for in big creatures. White tip reef sharks, bull sharks, manta rays, sometimes marlin...

Keep us informed about your adventures. Sounds like you'll have a great time. :)
