Sam, I have some additional tips that might just help :D

First, maintaining perfect trim made it hard at first. I found that if I dropped my knees a bit, it would relax my bladder and made the stream come easier. Additionally, if your crotch strap is tight, it adds some pressure, which is hard to overcome. So, grab onto something, drop your knees a bit to relieve the pressure, close your eyes, and relax.

Another thing that helps me, and I really can't say why, is to check my SPG. It's somehow comforting to know that I have a ton of time to work through my peeing issues!

And as Lynne mentioned, it definitely gets easier with practice. After having not used it for a while, I'm a bit more apprehensive (subconsciously) and my body just won't let me do it....but after a few dives of using it, I find myself going multiple times in an hour long dive!

And one weird thing I've noticed is that when I have to go, but can't seem to get it going, I start to feel really "off"....like my diving is a lot more work and I feel like I'm not quite in control. When I'm able to relax enough and stop putting pressure on myself to go, I finally go....and then the dive turns around and is relaxing, simple, mellow, and way more fun!

Don't give up! It will come :D

Sam - of course I completely forgot about this over the weekend (I was too busy laughing at Pam), but there is a technique for "shy bladders" that might work for you. A number of people have said this works when they are in public rest rooms and have difficulty going. When you get into your relaxed position, ready to go, do some long division problems in your head. You don't actually have to solve them for real, but try something like 3 million divided by 173. Just focus your mind on the math problem. Theory is that the "math" part of the brain pulls cycles from the bladder control part of the brain and help let it flow. Something to try.
So you want to throw a math Frisbee at me when I should be peeing...alrighty, at this point I'll try anything as long as it makes me pee.

Thanks, Mike. I'll give it a try.

sam are you chilled at all, cause that will make it hard to pee. the only suggestion I have is drink a hot or warm liquid before the dive.

... or just try thinking about something really scary ... of course, if it's too scary it may have unintended consequences ...

Good tips, Nicole, I will incorporate them all. I refuse to give up. I got the She-P to pee during a dive and am determined to do so. I do LOVE my She-P.

No, I am not chilled but you're right about being cold can make it difficult to pee. I am very comfortable during the dives in my Fourth Element undies. Will add drinking warm liquids to my list of methods to try.

Thank you!

... I get this image in my head of Sam hanging off the back of the boat concentrating on her pressure gauge with a cup of tea in her hand while reciting multiplication tables ... suddenly her facial expression goes from :depressed: to :shocked2: to :D ...

Fall asleep, and I'll dip your hand in warm water.

sam, the sign larry & i use is the letter 't' in the asl fingerspelling alphabet. we thought about 'p' but thought it could be misread for 'line', so went with something that looks like someone peeing...

Sam, if you can pee at the dock . . .

Can you pee standing up in water to your knees?

Then standing in water up to your p-valve?

Then standing in water up to your waist?

Perhaps 'easing in' to the situation will help.

If you can pee on the dock, then just go to the lake, and start working on getting underwater. Pee standing ankle deep, then pee standing knee deep, and so on.
