OK so I'm hoping to take this p valve for a spin tomorrow.

Got the quick disconnect - how do I connect the suit-side component? Do I cut the hose? Or rip the existing plastic bit out?

Also curious for those who don't use the quick disconnect - when removing the cath from the suit's hose, I'm guessing the hose itself may be full of urine - any issues with inadvertent splashing?

Lastly after the dive... what do you just blow vinegar or something through the hose to clean?

Heat up some water, put it in a cup and soak the connector/hose. It will pull right out. You will then be able to insert the quick disconnect.

At the end of the dive day I run some Steramine through the hose and then some air.

Remove the black plastic part that is on the hose, letting it soak in hot water should soften the hose and make removal easier. While it warm push the QD part into the hose, there will be some residual liquid when you disconnect but a few squeezes of the bulb end will take care of most of it. I just flush with water but I will remove the valve a few times per year and clean in some bleach water.

1 - If you have the hose to spare, cutting it is a lot easier that getting that barbed fitting out.

2 - Open the valve and hold your junk down while pulling the catheter off the fitting and the "splash will be very minimal, if at all. Squeeze yourself and the catheter to force the urine out while doing it.

3 - I have a squeeze bottle of 50% vinegar and 50% water that I flush the hose and valve out with after removal but before closing the valve.

don’t use the quick connect. They don’t flow as much.

Trim the end of the condom so it can’t kink

I find the Wideband extremely hard to remove. I tried the hot shower thing and it didn’t help. I have to use a non-stinging adhesive remover. But even with that, it’s an unpleasant chore. I think the prep wipes do their job almost too well in enhancing adhesion. I’m going to try a test run without the prep.

I've tried both the wideband and the ultraflex catheters. They both work fine. Personally I prefer the ultraflex with a little less gluey surface, as it allows the "helmet" a little more freedom and still stays stuck well to the "neck" over a full day of diving. I could go with either of two sizes, and with the ultraflex I prefer the smaller size, with the wideband the larger size. I use prep wipes, as it seems to adhere a little better and stick a little longer.

No issues with removal as long as I stay trimmed, I just carefully catch a back edge and carefully, ever so slowly turn it inside out first time I'm hitting the head after a day's diving.

I don’t use the quick connect device. Just straight into the cath. But process is image to be similar. Simply work any urine trapped in the end of the cath into the tube occasionally elevating the tube to help it drain. While pinching off the end of the cath as you pull it off in a smooth motion you shouldn’t get much splashing. First couple times you may want to keep a paper towel in the hand you are holding the hose with and hold it close while disconnecting. After disconnecting raise the hose up as high as it will go to allow it to drain. From there I’ll just slowly pour a water bottle (either water or one with steramine mixed up) into the end of the hose to flush it out. You can blow it out yourself by making a fist around the hose, holding the hose by your pinky then blowing into your index finger and thumb side. Import to blow and not suck.

I used a section of the hose about 6 inches, put the barb one end and the male part of the quick disconnect on the other end. A whip as some call it, then I have a small orange cap that fits tightly on the male part of when it’s not in use. Just tuck it under my shirt. When I get my drysuit on, I take the cap off and insert it in the other half of the quick disconnect, hooked up and ready to go.
Cleaning I use a squirt bottle with a mix of vinegar and alcohol, cheap and works great.

They flow more than enough for me. They do come in different sizes. Not just the barb size, but the diameter of the quick connect as well. I run 3/8" which happens to be the same as my camelback hydration and that flows great. I have some smaller 1/4" quick connects for a water cooling project, those are flow limiting.

While at it you can also get the quick connects as "open", just a hole anything will pass through. Or get them "with shut off" which places an automatic valve inside. When connected they flow just fine, but when disconnected they don't flow at all. Plan ahead. With shut off is great at keeping the plumbing from draining inside the suit when disconnected, but you can't pee unless it is connected. The shut off is available in both the male and female sides of the connect. And don't have to be used together (open male to shut off female works just fine)
