I thought it was supposed to be tapering off around this time, but I'm on the West coast and know nothing about hurricanes.
Storms vary from year to year, but overall - September is the peak month.

Dang, what's with all the late storms (it is late, isn't it?)? Don't they know I'm going to Cozumel in 17 days?

Check out hurricane Mitch in 1998. It was the end of October into November.

Oh darn. We've always gone in late November or December before. For some reason October seemed like a good idea this year. Danged old people, plagued by CRS. At least we haven't paid in advance for any diving. :) If we wait for January or February then we'll get El Norte instead.

The earliest on record formed on January 3, and was a monster. 1938 New England hurricane - Wikipedia

If hurricane warnings develop for Cozumel for your dates before you leave, unlikely as that may be, airlines & hotels usually offer free changes. They don't want to deal with you going there then anyway.

I try to insist that anyone in my family take good trip insurance for any international trip, mostly so we can cover their medical costs and get them home dead or alive. It paid well when my granddaughter lost her passport in China. (I still chide my daughter for letting the child carry her own, but at least they had spare photos and photocopies as I had suggested.) If you haven't yet, you could purchase such now and probably be covered in case of warnings. Check the terms as you shop.

I had good trip insurance for Hurricane Dean and should have canceled before I left, but I bet against the experts that surely it would veer off. It did right before a possible hit, but the island and Holbox had both shut down & boarded up by the time I left. The insurance paid. Funny how people were arriving at my hotel as I left saying "What hurricane?"

If we wait for January or February then we'll get El Norte instead.
Yep, that's a bigger risk.
