Has anyone tried a different wing on DSS kydex backplate?

I emailed the main address on the DSS site. Tobin replied that they had an unfortunate setback (I'll let him post the details) and it's unlikely that production will resume any time soon. That being said, we own two torus-17 wings on kydex backplates. If I can't find another DSS wing or bladder, I'd rather try to retro an Oxy or other wing onto the backplate... better than buying a whole new setup.

Thanks in advance!

I have a Kydex shortie that I use with a Highland wing or a Dive Rite (never had a DSS one) and have had no issues with single-tank nor doubles wings on it.

Any wing should work well with DSS plates. I have used DSS, Halcyon, Oxycheq, HOG and VDH.

IMHO, the VDH 18 is the best current wing that would dive like a DSS Torus 17.

If you are willing to use a STA, it will work with most of not all wings. Without STA you will need to check if the plate slots line up with the wing slots.

Folks, thanks very much for the responses and recommendations. I'll try to track down a T-17, but at least there are options if I can't find one by my next dive. Very helpful community!

It's good news that Tobin is around somewhere, gotta be patient for great gear and a renovated passion

I have a regular steel DSS plate and I am now using VDH 17/23 wings. I like them better as it packs better. The shape is shorter but thicker. Otherwise works identically.

Actually the inflator hose off the left side is far superior to it being centered on the DSS wing based on my usage.

The only con is the dump. Tobins was superior. The pull on the VDH is too short and too thin. I need to replace it with something more DSS like.
