Has anyone ever sneezed while diving? Is it even possible? Has anyone ever done it? Just a question that my husband brought up.

Lots. I just direct it through my reg. I have a problem with allergies depending where I am and can end up having sneezing fits underwater. If you sneeze through your nose you have to take your mask off to clean it sometimes. But at least it won't fog after that...:D

won't fog...yuck.

is that avatar popular, or what? I sneeze underwater too.

...on a shallow dive I had to sneeze. Seemed like it took forever from the onset to the sneeze.

Just let it happen. Don't stifle it in any way, or you'll risk ear trauma. Instead, place a hand over your second stage so you don't accidentally blow it out of your mouth, then channel your sneeze thru your mouth. Be prepared to remove your mask and wash it out, but wait until you're sure that you don't have another sneeze coming.

I sneeze all the time. I also cough a lot, especially when I am on initial descent. It's a weird thing, but manageable.

Burping works too.

Gee whiz it just ends up in the nose pocket. Don't divers come up with a snoot full where you are or is it a cold water thing?

I blow my nose on most dives as the cold works on my sinuses. Never gave it another though. The tip of my nose does feel warm for a moment.

To the OP, I have burped and coughed, not sure about a sneeze.

Ewww, Pete. That's worse than peeing in your suit. I dive with a guy who has a post dive ritual before boarding the boat. He takes off his mask and swishes it around and makes raspberries with his face under water, snorts a couple of times, then hands up his mask. Now I know why ....

I did, for the first time, just the other day. Surprised the heck out of me!
