At least that's what I and the other posters assumed. People don't normally struggle with short hoses.
I'm embarassed to say I was struggling with the hose from my octo. I just picked up my regulator out of layaway the Friday before the trip, and I wasn't ready to move away from a recreational regulator setup yet.
The octo came loose from the holder when I was putting on my rig, and I managed to get it caught beneath my shoulder harness. I was struggling with trying to get it out from under the strap while staying on the bench on a rolling boat. I freely admit my technique needs improvement.
I'm also now seeing the value of a DIR-style necklace, but I figure that's for another forum, and not the New2Scuba section. I've no intention of getting into a DIR discussion here.
