I realized that my casual question about how many days before Surge that I should arrive totally hijacked the Surge discussion thread. So I'm starting this new one and I hope the "before/after, Ambergris Caye" posts can be moved here by a mod? Meanwhile I just got done watching this video (Amazon Prime) and I'm STOKED!

OK, new plan. When you arrive, instead of heading to Ambergris Caye, you head inland and do the hike/tour into the Actun Tunichal Muknal cave, more commonly referred to as the ATM cave. I dunno about the iguanas thing. They're stinky. Doesn't do it for me but the ATM is one of the greatest adventures that I've enjoyed in my life, the world over. Very cool! Forget the tubing, do the ATM cave!

Or would you rather spend 3 days on Ambergris Caye?

I'm an island girl, and had my fill of iguanas living in SoFla, not enough into caves to take dive time away to explore them.

Thinking now to come to Ambergris Caye early in the week to explore, dive, chill. I have a ton of reading to do now that I've decided to come early.

I had to laugh as Felix was telling me how small the island is (I've lived on smaller islands) and how I'd have to go to the mainland to shop (I spent a couple of summers living/working in Yellowstone with a 5 hour round trip for groceries) and how there was no city life (oh thank goodness!) He also told me that the ruins on the mainland weren't so great and I told him I'm totally not interested in ruins. Funny how when you don't know someone that you make assumptions as to what they would enjoy or what would be a hassle to them!

I misunderstood you again because you were hot for the Into the Drink Belize episode. I understood that to be the one about the cave tubing and the iguana guy. The only ruin that I would suggest to someone like you is Tikal but since you're not into ruins and aren't going inland anyway . . .

Who's Felix?

Felix is one of the guys who we call to book our Surge trip.

I can enjoy watching a video without having to do whatever is in it.

Of course!

Have you looked at Caye Caulker as your potential "chillin" option instead of Ambergris?

Here's a little of my background when it comes to Belize. I've been 25 times for sure and maybe more. I've actually lost track. I used to go 2- 4 times per year and never stayed less than 10 days. I even had an apartment there for a bit. For many years, I believed that one day, I would be living there full time. Once I started diving in Indonesia, that plan changed. Then again, never say never, right? :p

I'm not a travel agent either, just a fan girl.

I don't have to make any decisions, other than my flight to Belize City (booking this weekend to take advantage of AA no change fees promotion) until what, like October?
