I have a post recall inflator that has also failed like the original recalled inflators. Took it apart and found it very corroded. I always rinse it after diving in fresh water as well. Cleaned it up using toothpaste and qtips. It took a very long time to remove all the corrosion. I reassembled it and it worked for about 30 dives and now intermittently is leaking again. My guess is it's corroded again. I have sent a message to Halcyon concerning this and I am waiting for a reply.

The best way to describe the SS inflators is dangerous. I hope Halcyon replaces it at no cost as they seem to be well below the industry standard in reliability.

Halcyon service responded to me the same day with a link to the service manual and a part number for the lubricant. I responded back to them indicating I would like to replace it. They have the Plastic OEM in stock and the brass nickel plated units will be several months until they are available. They offered me a swap out of the SS unit I have at no charge. I opted for the plastic OEM one they have in stock and Corey even offered to ship it to me right away and upon receipt I ship him the problem inflator.

I'm happy!! I consider this good service. Further, they will get the problem inflator for failure analysis.

Bob, DiveRiteExpress sells the DiveRite inflators, which are just like that one--inflation button on the inside. I will probably be buying one if my SS inflator on my Eclipse goes bad. Currently it's still holding up just fine, so I must be the only person who got a good one. ;)
The only inflators I saw on the DRE website were the outside inflate ones (like Oxycheq uses). If they have the inside ones, I'd go with them ... I buy from DRE regularly (just got a package from them a couple weeks ago, in fact) ...

I seriously doubt inflators are going bad at the end of one month doing only fresh water dives. I'm speaking of corrosion. The important thing is to lube these things appropriately. Meaning don't skimp on the lube. If dirt and debris are accumulating inside the inflator, you must be doing some seriously low viz dives or dragging the thing through the mud ;)

I have had no problems with these inflators other than the originals because of the sharp edge on the nipple. That was latter changed so it was beveled. I do still have problems with Halcyon inflator hoses. They leak at the nipple. I can only assume the o-ring in the hose is not the correct durometer and is easily cut, but I don't know for sure.

As for repair kits, just size the o-rings in these units and purchase some extras from an o-ring supplier.

Hmmm,

Because I don't want to tear down my wing inflator on a monthly basis when doing only freshwater diving, makes me lazy?

We had a nice lengthy discussion about this. Apparently the ones at DRE have been verified as the plastic one with the button on the inside. Also, since there was such a demand for them, I believe that 5thd-x /Breakthrudiving is now selling them as well for $35. DRE has them for $39.90. They're towards the bottom of the page, part # BC2055.

If you look on the bottom of page 2 and the top of 3 of the 5thd-x forum link I provided you'll see that the ones that DRE and 5thd-x are selling all have the oral inflation, power inflate button, and the LP hose connection on the inside, just like the Halcyon SS inflator.

...also note that I haven't bought one from either place, so...this is all hearsay, but it's from somewhere I trust. :)

So tell us exactly what the flaw is in your expert opinion.

You know, design flaws in scuba life-support equipment really irritate me.
