I agree. I don't have any problems with mine since I service it myself. I guess some people are just too lazy to do it themselves.

btw, the picture someone posted with the red button shows the inflator on the outside. That really bites when diving stages. The button to the inside is a better placement.

New SS inflater's are fine, they just require regular servicing that no one wants to do. Mine new one has about 200 dives on it (with regular servicing) and is 100% perfect.

It's not the self maintenance that's the issue... That's easy. You unscrew the metal parts, take off the o-rings, toss em in some vinegar overnite or an ultrasonic cleaner (if you have access to one), then lube it all up liberally. It's just the frequency which these SS inflators need to be cleaned that's alarming.

Any suggestions where one can purchase a replacement with the inside configuration? I just used my spare, and would like to get a couple more for my save-a-dive kit ...

That's not even my issue! My issue is that we have to learn about this problem by reading internet forums. Where's the company who built these things? And why haven't they informed their customers about this problem?

To my concern, this is a piece of life-support gear ... and malfunctions can be potentially life-threatening. This isn't something you should be learning about through internet chat boards.

Bob,

DSS uses the same inflator as Halcyon, but with plastic. Nice, slow inflator. Seems to work fine.

Hmmm,

Because I don't want to tear down my wing inflator on a monthly basis when doing only freshwater diving, makes me lazy?

I know ... I just don't wanna keep bugging Tobin to send me more power inflators ...

Halcyon is not the only inflator that gives up the ghost on occasion. I had a zeagle inflator fail on its second dive, spewling air. I did my 'peak performance buoyancy' specialty dive on manual inflation after that one. I also had a diverite develop a crack during a deco dive. it bled a steady stream of small bubbles, but held without blowing completely through the deco. Both companies got me new inflators immediately.

Bob, DiveRiteExpress sells the DiveRite inflators, which are just like that one--inflation button on the inside. I will probably be buying one if my SS inflator on my Eclipse goes bad. Currently it's still holding up just fine, so I must be the only person who got a good one. ;)
