I think all halcyon wings now come with a non-serviceable plastic inflator

Yes... I mentioned this is npost #2.

New SS inflater's are fine, they just require regular servicing that no one wants to do. Mine new one has about 200 dives on it (with regular servicing) and is 100% perfect.

The pic in your profile shows you wearing a dive rite??

care to explain?lol
Sure ... that's my warm-water/pool rig ... the pic was taken in Bonaire.

I own four singles rigs and a doubles rig ... they're a combination of DSS, Oxycheq, Dive-Rite, Halcyon, and FredT gear.

The inflator pics I posted on TDS were from my current doubles wing ... a Halcyon Evolve.

Is that an adequate explanation?

I can accept that, but Halcyon thinks regular servicing is every 20-30 dives... I had a SS inflator develop a slow leak at 55m... The wing probably just had 20-30 dives on it. Fortunately it started before I began penetrating a wreck. Had to unplug it to maintain buoyancy.

Actually, according to the manual Halcyon recommends annual servicing. From the first paragraph of the Maintenance section of the manual ...

The Halcyon Precision Inflator is designed to be serviced by an authorized dealer. Halcyon recommends periodic maintenance of your inflator, similar to that of regulator maintenance. Halcyon recommends that the inflator should be serviced at least once a year as a minimum, or every six months under heavy use. If your inflator exhibits either sticking buttons or is leaking air (either into the bladder or out the dump), discontinue use until the inflator can be serviced.
So ... on the one hand, they tell you to have it serviced by an authorized dealer ... on the other hand, they provide instructions for doing it yourself. The part number for the inflator o-ring kit is 14.060.109, and they do recommend that if you're going to pull the thing apart you should replace the o-rings.

Also, there is no mention of the corrosion problem in the manual. If you look at the troubleshooting chart when they talk about self-inflation they atrribute the cause to either insufficient lubrication on the o-rings or an accumulation of dirt and debris inside the inflator.

In other words, Halcyon's response to the corrosion issue is to not talk about it. That doesn't win any points with me ...

Sorry, not buying it. Regular servicing is not a problem for me. But with ~20 dives in 6 months, and meticulous washing/soaking of gear (even after freshwater dives), I shouldn't be having corrosion issues. Especially with a post-recall inflator.

No matter. It'll be tossed in about 6 weeks.

actually Bob, I was being sarcastic about the 20-30 days servicing interval...;)

ditto to what Perrone said...

when I brought this issue up with the local halcyon dealer, they told me I should take it apart and clean it before any major trip... sorry, it's time for me to get an oms or other brand inflator...

Actually, I was shocked after seeing Bob's picture about the corrosion. Even though Halcyon insists that it would be fine with the regular maintenance, the corrosion inside after 20~30 dives can't be accpetable.

Bob, No! :D It's not good enough. We want to know why you consider your DiveRite your Warm-water/pool rig? :eyebrow:
