The Halcyon Aura is which rebadged scubapro reg? The R380 or the R390? I was told today at my LDS that is was a R395 but I dont think so. Is there any reason not to get this reg for a backup for the G250? Thanks

The Aura, 380, 390 and 395 are all pretty much the same. I think its a great choice for a backup, and I prefer it to the g250/Halo and r190 (since its smaller).

For a backup, you want something simple and reliable. The R390 is exactly that. It won't free flow if you point the mouthpiece down when you jump in, or forward if you're scootering.

As for which to get, well, the price is pretty much the same. The Halcyon comes with a useful hose (40 inches, IIRC), vs a 32inch (I think) hose with the Scubapro. 32 is too long to use as a backup, but too short to use as a stage reg. If you plan on keeping the Scubapro warranty up to date, the R390 might be the way to go.

Personally, I prefer adjustment knobs in order to prevent free-flowing.

Both regs have pre-dive adjustment

The G250V has the adjustment knob and it's a better breather, Also the G250V is a lot better in cold water. I realize it's a back-up I said the same thing when buying my first set which was (MK17/G250V wR390 Back-up) and Dove a year with it. The next year I upgraded the back-up to a better reg.

Well I ended up ordering the Halcyon Aura from DiveSeekers a few days ago. Got an email yesterday from diveseekers about the reg was out of stock.....ahhhh the damn thing was in stock when I ordered it. Oh well they said they would have more in a week. So once I receive the reg, I will pass on the review and pics.
