would welcome anyone's ideas into their habitat design - any pics or dimensions and materials used would be appreciated

Currently redesigning ours and looking to get some input on what youve come up with both good an bad. We have currently a pvc type dome with straps connected to aluminium poles. The main issue is when it loaded it tends too put a large dome on the top and the stretching creates tiny holes which obviously leak.

The problem with leaks is constantly topping up the habitat with nitrox which may not seem like a big deal but when you have them inflated for long period its yet another task to have to attend to on an already busy day when your in a remote area and limited gas supplies

secondly the dome effect adds significant gas volume esp at 21 and 30m

thirdly we need to reduce the possibility of a tear or rip when under load (this wears on your mind )

fourthly getting out of the water (6º) is crucial

thanks in advance here is a pic of what we have - PM me if you prefer

MATE did you catch up with The Wetmules

I have nothing to offer this conversation other than when people consider regular Trimix diving to be technical, it seems like tiddlywinks compared to habitat design, site selection, installation, operation and maintenance. From my perspective, habitat diving seems like the rising tide in the definition of technical diving.

Great article. Thanks for posting. I totally missed that one.

Would placing the PVC dome inside something like a commercial feed sack to carry the load make it more durable? Much like the bladder inside a wing.

How very cave-centric of you to think that only caves are hard core tech diving. For example, "regular trimix diving" the wrecks off Donegal, Ireland in 18' seas and current is not tiddlywinks.

I don't foresee habitats rising in any sort of tide in open water tech diving.

yes thats the direction we're were heading- making a box to put it in - probably ply so it can fold down to transport- going to trial that soon -thanks
