Over the years I have tried a bunch of different ways to transport gear to and from different dive sites. I was never really satisfied with any of them until I did some cave diving in MX and used the crates they have there. They seemed like the perfect solution, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Big box retailers had crates with dimensions that just didn't fit everything for a proper OC cave dive, especially fins.
The other day I was ordering some hardware from Mcmaster-Carr and found this crate. I figured I would give it a shot because the dimensions seemed about right. Advanced warning, the shipping cost is not for the fiscally responsible. Anyway, needless to say, I think this is the one!
It has been a while since I have been in MX, but this one feels close enough. I attached some pictures of all my gear (except exposure and tanks obviously) loaded up in the crate as if I were headed to dive. I also drilled holes in the corners and stretched/tied medium bungee there to clip stuff off and one bungee across the middle. There is a ledge at the top for the bungee to rest and slots for the bolt snaps to fit somewhat recessed. Lots of gaps for drainage and air to dry things off as well.
Super impressed with it so far. I can't speak to durability, but I hope this thing lasts. Just passing it along in case anyone else is looking for a similar solution!
