I don't think PCBs are a concern.

Why not? The Navy admits that it did not remove 700 lbs of PCBs from the ship because it was too expensive. If the Navy had dumped 700 lbs of PCBs in a park by your house, would that concern you? Or, do you not believe that PCBs are a health and environmental concern?

Just trying to understand your rationale.

Why so opposed to Greenpeace?

Oh...... Maybe because they are an eco-terrorist organization?

I agree with the greenpeace founders' ideas. Help save the world from the rampant pollution of the day. However, since that time they have devolved into the extremist group we see today. I group them in with others such as ALF and al-Qaeda.

I'm surprised by the attitude of some here! I would have thought that, as SCUBA divers, we'd be supportive of any organisation that is trying to protect marine and inland water environments. And, "Wayward Son", seeing that you support fishing I'd have thought you might support an organisation that's trying to ensure the fish you catch and eat aren't going to give you cancer.

Wijbrandus,
So you haven't answered the question. I've nothing against the military. I'm proud of our forces, supportive, and appreciate what they do. I do, however, think those at the Pentagon are non-too-concerned about the environment. Rather than bias, why not say that my statistics are outdated. I'd be happy to see your evidence that the Chinese industrial complex has superceeded US military output of pollutants.
Just what part of Greenpeace's politics do you not like? Is it their protection of marine creatures, or their defiance of governments such as Japan, France, the US, etc who do harm to the worlds oceans? Something else perhaps? Please ellucidate...

How many people has Greenpeace killed?

Greenpeace would ban diving if they could. I'm sure they would complain about divers fins touching corals, masks being found at the bottom, spearfishing, the pollution from boats, etc. Don't confuse environmentalists with conservationists. A conservationist goes hunting, fishing, diving, but doesn't kill/destroy every animal. A conservationist enjoys the resources around him, he gets on a 4x4 or a snowmobile and takes advantage of the national parks, which were created by Teddy Roosevel who was a hunter, fisher, and a conservationist.

An environmentalist like PETA or Greenpeace thinks that humans are evil. They know nothing about mantaining a forest or an ocean. They think the environment is better when it's left alone. What bull! In California people know that if you don't remove dead trees and give them to the lumber industry, you're more likely to have forrest fires.

As far as I'm concerned, Greenpeace is an anti-diving, anti-freedom organization. And if you don't want to end with a dive tax, you're better off opposing them.

For me to truly answer the question would be a TOS violation, but you can simplify it by saying that I don't tolerate terrorists no matter how just they think their cause is.

I despise them for actions they have taken & I think that a lot of them are as unhinged as a snakes jaws.

Yeah, ever see them terrorising those giant whaling ships with those little rubber dingys?

While I do not agree with many of Greenpeace's tactics, this does pose an interesting question. Here in southern California the high levels of PCB's are believed to have caused reproductive changes in animals ranging from the giant sea bass to the California sea lion. I can't assess the magnitude of any danger posed by the sinking of these vessels, but it is possible the issue is real whether you like the messenger or not.
