I'm in a similar position... buy a backup or demote my current primary?

PG Dive has a smoking deal on those funky little Oceanic Omega 2's with the CDX3 first stage. Oceanic is closing them out. At least one or 2 of the DM's use them regularly as their primary regs. Delta 4's seem very reasonably priced as well.

If it's toys you're looking for check out the Atomic T2 (Titanium = BIG $$$). I'm going to demote my Titan and get a B2 (same as a T2 except the 1st stage is not Titanium).

Well, I just came back from a trip and didn't get around to getting that backup before we left. Naturally, one of our 1st stages went south part way through the trip (O ring visibly hanging out at the swivel and the whole thing loose.) I don't know if I'm unlucky, get crappy service, older regs are more prone to problems, or what. At least it happened on the boat, and was able to get it fixed that afternoon.

Damselfish:
I was just looking at the ScubaPro MK2+ 1st stage Scubatoys is selling for $94. Would that be a good option for tossing in my bag?

Only if you are buying from an authorized SP dealer, or don't care about servicing it regularly

It is my understanding that all SP regs sold through Scubatoys will carry a full warranty, even though they are discontinuing that line. My backup reg is the Zeagle Envoy, rated best reg for under $250 by Scuba mag. It's been bulletproof so far and it has been deep.
