Hello ...

I cant seem to find the buoyancy characteristics of AL 100 tanks anywhere on the net. Can anyone please tell me how much weight Id be losing from my weight belt when using AL 100s instead of AL 80s. Also ... do they have the same circumference as AL 100s? Also ... how do they compare in their gas holding capacity with Steel HP 100s.

Thanks in advance for your help.

AL 100 is -4 to -8 lbs when full (depends on brand) according to the chart at Huron Scuba's site. Your AL 80 is -2 to -4 lbs. That'll get you down. Just make sure you can be neutral when shallow with a nearly empty tank.

OK,

Help me out here. Out side of being cheap, what is it you like about AL100's (vs HP100's) ???

They have the same nasty negative to positive buoyancy profile as AL80's

I'm short (5'7" or 170cm) at 156lbs/70kg, and my single AL100 feels long like a telephone pole strapped to my back; much bigger & taller and not as easy to manhandle around like an AL80.

I dropped 6 to 8lbs (2.7 to 3.6kgs) switching from a Catalina AL80 to Catalina AL100 tank.

Why the preference for AL? A HP100 is superior in every respect...

I love HP 100s. Unfortunately the charterboat does not carry them.

They are probably a lot cheaper than steel 100's, that is about the only thing in their favor. I sold all 3 of mine. If you can find some decent used ones and that is all you can afford, go for it.
