The shop on roatan that I did my DM with, Coconut tree, is pretty careful with their tanks. They have their own compressor. Still, it is REALLY humid down there and the shops are about 20 feet from the bay, so the air would be really tough on steel anything. (I realize that the interior is not exposed, if the fills are dry) I'm sure the main reason everyone uses AL tanks there, like most tropical resorts, is financial.

I just came off a week on the Aqua Cat in the Bahamas. My first experience with AL100's and they worked great in the dive environment I was in. I had to walk 8 ft from my dive station and off the side of the boat. So weight was not an issue. The boat had Luxfer 80 and 100. With an AL80 I normally dive with 8 lbs on my BC (warm water rig). I added 2 lbs for the positive boyance between the Luxfer 80 and 100. My bottom time increased approximately 25% for the whole trip.

As for size difference, the Luxfer 80 and 100 are virtually the same hight (+ - 1/2 inch) with the 100 being an 8" tank and the 80 being a 7 1/4 " tank. Other than that no difference.

Again, my first experience with AL100s and for the dive conditions they worked out great.

4 to 8 lbs
