Didn't post well did it.

Ok, here is another try:

Weights are all in fresh water. Tanks are weighed with 300 psi in them.

A = Weight of Twin Lux 80's with regs = +6

B = Weight of Steel 125 with regs = -4

C = weight of back plate = -6

Weight of V weights used (acctualy 3# lead shot bags)

D = For Twin 80's set = -9

E = For Single steel 125 = -3

F = Weight needed for wet suit (1/4" Farmer John style) = +26

E = Weight neded for Drysuit (Viking Pro with 400 gram underwear) = +29

So for a wet suit and twin 80's it is: A+C+D+F = 17 pounds

Wet suit and a single 125 = B+C+E+F = 13 pounds

Dry suit simular calculations.

Going through the above makes swaping out between rigs much easier.

FYI, in my first post I copied from an old file so some of the numbers have changed. One of these days I have to clean up this computer.

WOW!26 pounds needed to sink a wetsuit?

When I dive my AL80's in the ocean with a 5mm full wetsuit, I carry 11 pounds (6 in ss plate and 5 for the suit. even then I am slightly over weighted by about 1/2 pound or so. As I mentioned, it all depends on the person and this info really only illustrates how someone can account for weighting, but the numbers do not add up for me and probably not for anyone else.

A 5mm wetsuit is a world of difference from a 1/4 inch or 7mm farmer john and jacket, which provides 1.4cm of neoprene around the diver's torso (nearly 3 times what you have with a 5mm full suit), and 7mm on the extremities, plus the probable addition of 5mm hood, boots, and gloves.

When I used to dive wet with an AL80 in the ocean, I needed 36 lbs of weight. 26 for the suit in freshwater isn't so hard to believe.

A lot of divers have never seen a full farmer john set Ankle to shoulder bottom, upper thigh to neck top, 1/4" boots, mits and hood (with a bib tha goes down to you upper chest so that you can have 3 layers at some points.

But they do keep you much warmer in cooler water then a single layer back zip style.

For figuring the weight of the suit, put it in the pool and add weight to it as it floats. Make sure all the air is out. When it sinks with the addition of only one pound of lead, you should be within about 2 pounds of what you need with it on.

True, but 2 mil is not going to add more than double the amount of weight. I was merely using this as another example to highlight that there are differences in what people need.
