Roy,

At the end of the day, in my humble opinion, you will have enough of a market for these that they will sell and I doubt it will ruin recreational scuba.

I didn't try the Darkfins with my Drysuit this weekend, decided that my first dive in the Drysuit would be distraction enough and I was right on that call (always had split fins but bought a pair of SP Jet Fins for the DS, I didn't expect such a difference in the effort required without the split!).

Looking closely at them though I wonder it you can eliminate the texture around the wrists. I'm a little worried that it might allow leakage if tucked into the wrist seal. I guess I could lay them over the seal. We'll see next time I dive.

Everything goes OVER the (wrist) seals!!

If I saw someone donning these gloves pre-dive, I have to admit I'd mentally register a strike against that person.

Reminds me of the assumption that anyone who gets the PADI MSD C-Card is a poor excuse for a diver.

If you don't want to dive with me because of my Split/Jet Fins, Darkfin Gloves, or Jacket BC then why do I care? You're the one who is missing the experience of sharing a nice dive with a friendly guy who may not be in the top 1% skill-wise but has progressed quite well in the 10 months I have been diving.

At the end of my day, someone will be missing a pair of these gloves if they should happen to dislodge my mask or reg with their arm flailing. Okay, probably not.....

I also see these gloves as a gear solution to a skills issue. As long as that choice has no impact on me, have at it. If I saw someone donning these gloves pre-dive, I have to admit I'd mentally register a strike against that person.

OK, A fair and honest response.

Dave, one question for you. If you saw a diver slip those on and applied your strike then after descending watched them dive with a great deal of skill and competence, would remove the strike?

Thanks, I'm new to Drysuit diving.

I can't explain what I was thinking other than that the wrist seals would ensure a watertight fit at the wrists...

Guess I'll try it like that and see how it works out...

I give up, why do you care?

Sorry, I size divers up.

It starts as soon as I find out you're a diver. I listen, I watch, I check out your kit, I see who's listening to the briefing and who's wandering around aimlessly. If you aren't my student and there's nothing I see about you that strikes me as dangerous, I'll keep my observations to myself, but they're still there.

Nowhere did I say I wouldn't dive with you; that would take 3 strikes. ;)

Hmmmm..... Yes. I'd likely look at them as I do split fins at that point.

Generally speaking, I don't think much of split fins for my diving. I couldn't get a back kick out of them and I don't like the response. Check out my dive con:

He can hover, helicopter and back kick with his splits and that's all I really care about for the dives I do with him.

I would say everything goes over the seals in general but there are a few exceptions. There's a little neck thing you can get to slip around your neck if the neck seal is too uncomfortable for you. It's very smooth and maintains a seal. The other exception is if you are damming dry gloves, then you use a small piece of whatever (surgical tubing or straw) under the wrist seal to break the seal so that the glove can equalize. If the glove punctures or something, you can just sorta pop the straw down with your hands to re-establish a seal.

Otherwise, all gloves, hoods, and anything that's supposed to get wet goes OVER the seals.

Maybe I'll hire your company later to re-package it and market it (at double the price tag) to those of you who don't get it.

Seeing as the current price is FREE you may need to TRIPLE it in order to make money.

So again, I ask a reasonable - and serious - question (what type of thermal protection if any do the gloves provide) but instead of getting a reasonable answer (or ANY answer at all) I'm met with more nonsense.

:shakehead:

Hi;

I'm still analyzing the gloves. I can tell you, not from a scientific or what you would call an expert opinion, they seem to have some thermal properties, about equal to my 3ml gloves.... For surge control, in high silt environments, I would not suggest it, they really have a big bite in the water. I like them to get a little more speed, and gives my hands something to do. So far, anything I could with with no gloves, I have had no problems doing with these babies. I also have experimented with removing them, and putting them back on, while underwater, which has worked fine, I just unzipped and tucked into the web suit. Removed them and put back on for the long distance power dives... It is very cool.

I showed the folks next door, who are not divers, and they immediately asked if they came in some kids sizes, their grandson is just learning to swim, and they thought it would be a very cool accessory for a 3+ year old, giving them a bigger bite in the water... something to think about Roy...

So far so good, I am open minded enough to give the product thorough and fair trial.
