Okay, phew.

I know not to trust Notso_Ken when he says it's warm water :D but if he gives me actual numbers I can evaluate it for myself!

My understanding is that most of our dives will be the shallower depths- of course, "The Great Crash of '07" ate up the thread where I asked all these questions (and pondered the meaning of life...).

I dropped Ber's name as my instructor for going to the deep side. How many deep dives do I need to do to get my deep dive cert? :D

If you're my instructor, will Mike pass on requiring an alternate air source for each student? I have a 2.7 cu ft Spare Air but I kinda doubt that will count. I just made a call up there- the girl on the phone didn't know if he required a pony bottle. She said he likes it. But didn't say he requires it. And he wasn't there. Waiting for a call later. I can get one- I'm going to Dive Guy Scuba today and I'm sure he'll rent me his and show me how to sling it and all that. I'd rather not, though :D
None of my students have ever carried an extra tank when we went over there. Well, one former student did take two completely redundant tanks and managed to free flow BOTH of them in under 7 minutes. Why the local shop made him a DM and then an instructor after I refused to train him further until he got some out of class experience I will never know. That little incident proved I was right and resulted in my resolve to never accept the "I met the standards" argument from a student when I don't feel they are qualified for a certification. (going to stop the rant here or you'll never shut me up)

I'd rather not add a pony to you on that dive either. That's not the place to learn to use unfamiliar gear. I'd rather see you focus on nice deep breaths with long slow exhales to keep your CO2 level under control and, I've been told, help keep your second stage from freezing.

Not much difference in temp from 70- 100 I would assume?

May 18th at the helicopter sinking my buddy's computer showed 48 degrees. I lasted 25 minutes okay- and I have a new hooded vest and socks now (which I've dived/dove with 4 times now).

I've never really noticed any temp difference between 70-100, basically it's freaking cold below about 50 :D It's actually a pretty short run to the north wall, it's the cold that makes every minute feel like forever. I promise you're going to LOVE coming back up, by the time we get to the 15 foot stop you may feel like you're going to overheat.

trucker girl:
Please tell me Divin'Hoosier is not right about the temps- at least as far as Tobermory is concerned. Y'all have had me under the impression that it will be 50-65 depending on the dive. I'm not planning on doing the Arabia. I'll either skip that and do the second dive or... Scratchmyback and her SO may be coming up for shore dives on Friday.
The dives we've done up there have always been in the 50-65 range except for the deep ones. The water SHOULD be pretty toasty if they have had a summer that was as hot and dry as ours. That's why I like going in late August, you've got the whole summer to warm the water :D There are definitely a few dives where I will be wishing for the wetsuit instead of the drysuit.

I don't have a deep dive class in my repertoire right now. It takes time to develop these classes and come up with ideas to abuse....I mean challenge :blinking: , yeah that's it, challenge the students.

Because you wetsuit folks will be shaking so hard you won't be able to play :D

I thought you were talking about the stock market and the crash of '07! :(

trucker girl:
ScubUNO at 70 feet?

We could play the addition game, or rock paper scissors. Maybe better to save that for the safety stops as we will be bored hanging round at 15 feet for 3-5.

Steve_Dives:
We could play the addition game...

I REFUSE and I mean REFUSE to do math in public, it's DISGUSTING :whack:

Ber Rabbit:
Last time I went he strongly suggested alternate tanks or H-valve. I sling an AL80 and so does NotsoKen. Steve_Dives says he has a new 40 but I don't know if he's dove with it yet but we're hoping to do a dusk/night dive Friday to rectify that :D

No dives on it yet, but that 40 can't be as bad as that ******* brick you had me carry! :D
