Can anyone tell me if the family was present this weekend, and do we know what reaction (if any) they had once they saw the conditions for themselves?

Thanks

Yes they were. Disappointed, very disappointed.

On a slightly lighter side....I was watching the news footage from Vortex on Channel 7. Tell Mat next time the camera is around, to quit picking at his body parts! At least while he is on camera. :D

I must admit that I am surprised that any part of the cave on the other side of the gate can be scootered. I thought it was all tight fit beyond there.

Small passage can be scootered...if you know how.

And if you like motorcycles, you'll love scooters. These aren't the Seadoo toys we're taking into caves. Look at my FB mobile uploads photos and you'll see the type of scooter I'm talking about!

Glen, thanks for the laugh! I saw the news spot, but wasn't looking at Mat's crotch so I didn't notice that...LOL!

Anyone have a link to the footage? I want to make sure they got the good side of my crotch?

Wakulla is like an hour and a half away, yet the SeaRay out there came with deputies from Broward Co - logistic nicety!

So, in English, this means?? 17lbs of thrust doesn't seem like a whole lot. At least not enough to push through 25 million gallons of flow...

I thought it'd be damned slow too. It wasn't though, it was really fast when the tether wasn't snagged up(everywhere). When you had slack, you couldn't pay it out quick enough.

A real optimist. :shocked2:

I give it about 300' past the grate unassisted. After that I would think drag on the tether will stop it.

150' past the grate, unassisted. Got the slack out and it was at 1000' in no time. Took the rest of the day to get about 1350', then it(ROV) was deemed too big to go further. A revelation to everyone but those who had already been there...

...The story doesn't make it clear as to if 1300 was the max the ROV could navigate...

Another spool of tether was brought over from the Tally area(maybe Wakulla). There was plenty of tether, just not really enough room for the ROV... and thats before it gets really small.

I must admit that I am surprised that any part of the cave on the other side of the gate can be scootered. I thought it was all tight fit beyond there.

Fairly easy going for anyone comfortable in their gear(who isn't too big) to about 1300', not to be confused with a beginner cave dive. It is deep, and there are areas that are tight, but you don't start grinding until then. However, at that point, its all grinding passage, you really fight for the next 300'. I won't see it.

Now you stop that! The cost of the scooter would be the cost of a trip to Florida . . . . :rofl3:
