I've used Garmin for years, and it's been great. About to upgrade myself to the 478c (good for both my boat, and car).

I'm sure the TomTom works fine... however, it's a newcomer, compared to Garmin...

I remember seeing a BBC article about people who follow their GPS units' instructions so blindly that they keep driving into a river near a small village. :shakehead Unfortunately I can no longer find it.
 
I've been using a Garmin and have nothing but good things to say about the unit. I love my Garmin.
