According to the German forum "DivingGroup.de" the default setting is MB3, which is conservative; the test diver there stated, however, that the MB0 setting is even slightly "aggressiv" according to the following text:

Quote: So,den ersten TG hab ich überlebt :D . Was man der Kiste nicht vorwerfen kann, ist das sie irgendwie "konservativ" ist - in der MB0-Einstellung ist sie sauber dran am ZH-L16, für manche also eher zu "aggressiv". Der Tauchgang führte an der Galerie auf 75m, ca. 10min auf Tiefe und dann gemütlich in der Wand zurück. End quote.

("You can't blame it being "conservative"- in MB0 it follows strictly the ZH-L16, which for some people might even be rather too aggressiv".)

So it looks like you can continue to choose your level of conservatism, as with the actual (1.5) firmware.

@ C5diver : in Germany they seem to have started test diving from the beginning of February; the above mentioned dive was on 06-02-2011.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but for the moment the Trimix upgrade is nowhere yet available on the official Scubapro/Uwatec site (and that's the only place where to download any upgrades from) in any "region", America (English/Spanish), Europe (UK-Italy-Holland-Germany), Oceania, hell, I even tried the Japanese site. :cool2:
So just a little (?) more patience, perhaps.

@Texas Torpedo: lionfish kills? people killed by lionfish or lionfish killed by people? I would prefer the first (-:)

Lionfish kills.. If it were people killed by lionfish, nobody would dive and the sharks wouldn't have anybody to eat.. :D

@ CPH : have you actually been capable of downloading? If yes, show us a picture please of this final version.
I haven't been able to find any real download yet. And all the other downloads have always been directly available on the Scubapro website.

"Scubapro have finally announced..." : btw they did this 3 year ago already.
It "gives you a voucher" for when it comes out... for 0,01 cent. As I said, the download is not yet on the Scubapro site.

@Texas Torpedo : who kills them? :ar15: And above all WHY???

I kill them... Partly because I enjoy doing it, but primarily because they are an invasive species in the Caribbean (and neighboring areas) with no natural predators other than myself and other spear wielding divers.. And thus they are hoovering up all the pretty little reef fish virtually unchecked. If you are interested in knowing more, do a search for lionfish in the Cozumel and other forums.. There are plenty of threads covering this..

i have no idea when beta testing started but i was informed they still have about 5 weeks of testing left.

@ Jax & Texas Torpedo: thanks for the information; as I haven't been recently to the Caribbic or the Cozumel area, (mostly been diving the Red Sea and Indian Ocean, Maldives) I wasn't aware that there was a problem. (Just not convinced killing's the best or only way.)

(If the Natives had reacted in the same way, there wouldn't be Americans today :D ).

@C5diver: OK , thanks

I am really glad they are going forward with this. I would bet the upgrade will be available for Terra owners. :clapping:

I own a Galileo Terra which is no longer available. Yesterday, I asked my LDS about ongoing support for the Terra particularly with respect to software upgrades. ScubaPro's Australian distributor told the LDS over the phone that the PMG (i.e. Predictive Multi Gas) & HRM upgrades can be still be purchased (& then downloaded from the ScubaPro Uwatec website after the receipt of a key code) and the purchase of the PMG will entitle one to the Trimix upgrade at no extra cost (i.e. free) when it is available.

Ok, so i took the units for a bunch of no-deco dives, some air dives, some nitrox dives, some nitrox deco dives and trimix deco dives.. here are my opinions.

General Usability
Being already familiar with the galileo menu system and dive screens, made it very easy to adjust to the new options.. for a normal dive, the only big ticket item was having 10 gasses!! you can also pre-program your Hyperoxic (Max Operating Depth) and Hypoxic (Absolute Minimum Dpth) ppo's for a specific mix so warning pop-up accordingly. During a dive you can also access the tissue loading graph and it will show the Nitrogen and Helium graph.. pretty neat. Your ascent profile including stop depth/times are shown as well as a MB3 and MB0 ascent plan.

Diving Air or Nitrox in MB3:
When diving Air or Nitrox, the ZHL16 in MB0 it was way too aggressive for my liking and I opted to keep it in MB3.. with MB3, it still gave me about 3 minutes more bottom time at 90ft as my X1 with VPM-B Level3.. But with no-deco dives, I can live with MB3.

Deco Trimix with MB3
Once the computer goes into decompression, its extremely conservative, especially with trimix! for example, we did a short 180ft dive with a fairly slow ascent and my X1 gave me a 1min @ 20ft and 2min @ 10ft (3min total).. the Galileo was expecting 7min @ 20ft and 12min @ 10ft.. (19min total) so I decided to skip the extra 16 minutes deco on such a short dive and follow the X1

subsequent dives were the same result.. I reset the saturation time on the galileo and took it back for a repetitive dive.. my X1 (even with repetitive dive) gave me about 7 minutes longer bottom time than the Galileo that was reset and on the ascent, my X1 had no deco for the repetitive dive and the "reset" galileo wanted 9min deco for a fairly short dive to 100ft..

So, in my opinion at this moment, the MB3 level is aggressive with Nitrox/Air for no-deco limits, but overly conservative with decompression stops, especially trimix. I will put my X1 into ZHL16 with GF 15/85 for the next dives to compare apples to apples..

Deco Diving Usability
The usability during the dives are a breeze! Especially if you are used to the old ZHL8 deco software.. it works exactly the same...

Some of my feedback was that switching gasses by essentially "paging" through one gas at a time is ok with the old 3 gas system, but with 10 gasses, it gets kinda old paging through the gasses one screen at a time.. I would like to see a list of gasses (like the gas summary screen) and select a gas from there.

When diving and you decide to alter the computer's recommended stops slightly.. for example if you decide to adjust stop times slightly or opt to do longer stops at shallower depths, the galileo will automatically see that as a deco violation and auto degrade down to a MB0 level with mandatory stops.. thats dangerous to automatically revert to a much less conservative algorithm without user input..

Also, if you skipped a stop due to an emergency, like skipping up to the next level to go get gas or get to the support divers etc, the galileo will lock out the compass during this "deco skipped" scenario.. and again, if you depended on that compass to get you to an upline in case of an emergency it will auto disable the compass when skipping past a stop and you are now without a compass..

Also, it will always calculate your deco/ascent plan based on the gasses that are programmed.. so if your gas gets lost, you have no idea on what your new ascent plan will look like up until you reach that specific gas's switch depth and you ignore the switch, only then will it auto exclude the gas.. so if you lost O2 and wanted an alternate deco profile based on just the gas you have.. you wont know what that is until you reach the stop depth for O2 and ignore the switch so it can "exclude" the gas..

these are the only 3 items I would consider as big issues.. Otherwise the computer performed flawlessly and it was extremely easy to configure and dive..

The post dive logs and dive logging software are some of the best dive log software I have seen around..

Bottom line, the trimix firmware in the galileo is really really great and if Uwatec can fix some of these usability issues, I would hapilly recommend a Galileo in Tec diving classes as a "Tec Trimix" computer..

I'll be diving this more for the next few weeks and will post more info if I have any.

If anyone wants specific info on the firmware's function, let me know and I'll be happy to answer it.

cheers!
