I haven't used a package with transfers included in years. When optional, they are ofter twice as expensive as buying your own, and when built in like Funjet does them - the packages were too expensive, maybe the most expensive way to go? If the transportation vouchers are included tho, you have to wonder why they are not supplied along with other papers? Why would Funjet/Lomas need to keep agents at the hotel just to give out vouchers? As Antonio explains, it's to get you in the door for the sales pitches.

So, in this case the agent didn't bother being in his booth to give out paid vouchers and sell other tours. Not enough people on site to warrant him sitting there so he wasn't.

Sqweezy, thanks for letting us know, but you're not going to get much here. Good luck on going after Funjet to refund and additionally compensate. To me, it's just one additional reason to never use them. I'll pay several hundred less and get more elsewhere.

Did I miss where he insulted your wife?

"
"My wife asks what we can do and Juan tells her that he called the room the same day we arrived and told us to come get the voucher, now, it is too late and you need to find your own way to the airport. My wife asks if she can bring her Funjet Itinerary to the booth with her identification to see if there is a way to work this out. Juan says to my wife " I can't help you now, you should have come to the front when I called you the first day, now you can take the Taxi."

ya, this sounds like he was definately going out of his way to help my wife with the problem?

Ok. Your definition of an insult and my definition of an insult are completely different.

That is all. Good luck in getting this straightened out, and I mean that.

Unfortunately there are many stories like this, because the morons who wear the white pants, white ties and turquoise shirts, are generally a buch of lying, cheating, sob's. The company in question is not Funjet, it's called Lomas Travel, and they are hired by Funjet to run the ground transportation part of the Funjet package. Things is that Lomas does the ground transportation for next to nothing, in order to get access to you to sell you 3rd party tours, so if you don't "go see them the first day" then they did not make any money on you, and thus give you a hard time about the transfers, this racket has been going on for years, I personally waged war on them for 8 years at El Cozumeleño, and believe it or not I got every single Lomas guy (and their manager) FIRED at the end of 2007, by proving to the owner of Lomas that their staff had been stealing from them for years. Of course Lomas just hired another bunch of people who do exactly the same, it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO unfair that visitors have to put up with this BS, just because of the transfers...

Here's a report on similar situations with these idiots:

EL_COz_Funjet_rep

As it says on one of those threads, you should go to the Funjet website and look for the After Trip Comments form, but I want to do you one better, I suggest you email the OWNER of Lomas Travel, Dolores Lopez Lira, and tell her about Juan and his BS: dll@lomas-travel.com

FYI they HAVE to provide you with the voucher to the airport, wether you get it on the first day or not, if they get you to pay your won taxi back to the airport, Funjet still pays them for the transfer (that's your money by the way), but this way the guy pockets the money himself.... bastaaads...

if this is true, the kick to the nutz is that if Juan was at his booth the first day, we bought the following packages on our own. 2 tank scuba dive, moped 1 day, jeep 1 day, para sail for 2, lobster boat cruise" other than the dive package, we had to search out and find these activities on our own.

from a traveler back in march 2008. this sounds familiar....

"Bad experience with FUnjet rep at EL COz. Have been to Mexico many times before and know that we do not have to run to them the moment we get there to confirm our return flight. We usually go to the reps and book our tours since we know that is how they earn money. This trip, we decided to rent a car (did so at the hotel lobby even though it cost more) and cruise the island on our own. I had booked Toucan sailing trip months before online to be sure we could get it. Rep called immediately when we got there and again two days later. Second time, he said he needed me to see him since he had no info on us..blah, blah, blah and we needed to book our tours. I told him what we had already done and we just wanted to tour the island. I then said I would come down then and he decided he was too busy with people then and I had to come back later. He then hung up. We were on our way out, so I looked to see who it was and it was Arturro who had called. Two days before we were leaving, I went down to see Arturro to check our pick up time for our return.

He told me he had no record of us and gave me a hard time about not coming to see him immediately and I needed a voucher. He also asked me to pick up his briefcase and hand it to him since it was too heavy. He was being a real jerk and I told him I knew it was because I had not booked tours with him. He said he would have to check it out and I would need to come back. I had all my paperwork with me, but he acted as if I did not exist. At that point, we decided to just take a taxi and sned the bill to FUNJET.

The morning we were to leave, my husband went down and talked to a different rep and he found us with no problem and arranged our transportation.

I realize that is how they make their money, but I have never had a tour rep treat me that way whether I booked with them or not.

If you are with FUNJET..avoid Arturro."

At first I wondered if he had made some comments about her looks, whatever. The "insult" was in rude to abusive actions.

You have the satisfaction of knowing he didn't make any money off of you other than perhaps selling your vouchers at least. Glad you survived the moped. :shocked2: Some don't.

I am sorry to hear that you did not get your vouchers for transport back to the airport. You and your wife were very upset by the uncaring rep at Funjet. It's to bad that it had to impact your vacation time. I hope that you get some satisfaction from the company when you complain.
I must say, I must be cut from a different cloth that you. I would not let an idiot with vouchers ruin a moment of my vacation. His incompetence was not life altering although annoying. In my mind, worst case is that I pay for a cab to the airport and write a complaint letter when I got home. Crying, yelling or even a minute of stress about the situation out of my control is just a waste of great vacation time for me.
I hope that your next vacation will be less stressfull. Fill us all in on the result of your complaint with Funjet.

Thanks for pointing that out Antonio. I was biting at the chomp to post that clarification but you beat me to it. However, Funjet needs to know about what is going on with the company they contract with for the ground transportation.

Years ago BSD (before scuba diving) we spent many a trip dealing with these jamokes while staying at the big resorts on the mainland in Play del Carmen. Our first trip, it was appreciated to find out what was available and to get the lay of the land and back then, the internet wasn't what it is today for objective, unbiased travel advice and suggestions. When we returned, I realized what had just happened. We easily spent $1000 on tours and excursions after the 2-hour spiel and as a result didn't spend any time relaxing at the lavish, 6-star resort we paid handsomely to stay at. But it was good we saw everything and did everything and have not done one organized group tour/excursion since outside of diving. Additionally, we had noticed after returning home that the sneaking rep charged us twice for our excursion to Chichen Itza which amounted to an extra $250 and that's in US Dollars! Funjet got them to reverse the charge and sent us a couple hundred dollars in travel vouchers for the mix up. All was good.

For the next half dozen trips after that, we knew to steer clear of the reps once the tour bus pulled up the the resort. Back then, we made our twice-yearly homage to the Yucatan from Cleveland, OH and didn't much feel like sitting through a 2-hour sales pitch after waking up at 5am to catch a 7am, 5-hour flight and spend a couple of hours waiting on people at CUN to fill the bus in what relatively felt like very hot and humid weather to us while still wearing winter clothes. Each trip was met with a different experience with the Lomas Travel representative. Some were nice, fun-loving people that didn't haggle us much and wouldn't give us much grief in order to receive our voucher for our return. Other would be snide and rude waving us down in the lobby and asking where we were going and how much we paid to go. The one that broke the camel's back was very similar to op's post but climaxed the day before departure allowing us sufficient time so settle the matter with phone calls to Funjet who in turn rectified the matter with the local Lomas Travel supervisor. Nevertheless, it wasn't a pleasant experience and one that nearly ended in a good ole' Texas a$$ whopping in the ally behind the resort. SERIOUSLY! For the next couple trips to PDC, we got wise and realized that we could opt out of the transportation portion of our package by letting our travel agent know and saving enough money to hire personal/private car transfers to and from which is about an hour each way from CUN to PDC so it really made it worth it. Much less not having to wait at the airport for everyone to load a greyhound bus and make 15 stops along the way dropping people off.

Since going to Coz we always book with an non charter, online site always opting out of the transfer option. Our online travel site that we book with wants $41 pp for the round trip transfer totaling $123 for the 3 of us. IIRC, it's $9 USD pp to catch a white van from the airport taking us to Fiesta Americana. The 3 of us return to the airport via Taxi for $9 total. Instead of the $123 it costs was $36. Avoiding the sales pitch from unscrupulous Lamas Travel agents looking to ruin your vacation: Priceless! :D

When you're making your first trip to a country, it's too easy to get sucked in by these clowns. You just don't know any better and think, this is just the way it works here. It took me a couple trips to figure out that it's much easier and cost effective to just buy the air/hotel package and tell them to F/O on the frills. Anymore I always worry about arranging my own ground transportation rather than dealing with those Lomas scam artists.

Just get me to the airport and I'll take care of myself from there! :cool2:

We were there last month at the Iberostar on a Funjet land only package and I just had to confirm our flight number and was told to just get a taxi and they would be waiting at the airport to pay for it, no voucher. They were there as promised.
