Started to read the DIR Fundamentals of Better Diving today. Looks like it will be a good read. I do recall a few posts that said it is a bit dated. Is this true and what should I look for? Thanks! :D

Don't concern yourself too much with the minutia (details which may or may not be current with the exact GUE teaching standards)

The big picture is what matters. Try to take it in.

What Blackwood said. The gear setup is at times a little different from what GUE currently teaches, but you will get a general feel for the principles behind its selection. It's been a while since I've read it. It's a decent read, but not mind-riveting stuff. The Tech diving manual is also very informative, although horribly edited.

... another good read is "Dress for Sucess" by Dan McKay.

Juts realize its not a treatise on every current practice. The minor changes which have been occurred since publication are not things you'll even notice absent considerable further training with GUE.

Thanks everyone. I'm on page 110 right now, not far to go! :D

I have just finished this book also. Mostly to verify my set-up, I've read alot of info here on the board and almost all of it has helped with me understanding the whys of using and setting up my rig.

I will be doing the Fundies course this summer with Dan and look forward to improving on my skill level. At the same time I'm a little apprehensive and would like to practise what I will be learning, but the point of the class is to learn the proper way. Not to try to un-learn the wrong things I have been doing.

Are you going to the Aquathon this year? If so I can go over the stuff with you.

Yes I will be there with bells on. Oh wait, that's not DIR. By the way I will be bringing my compressor with me again. I will be double checking my gear before I leave this time, don't need a leaking wing again.

I finished the book today and really enjoyed it. Tell me a little more about DFS.
