DFS is an 8 1/2 x 11 glossy photo book detailing the DIR equipment setup in prose and pictures. It's slightly outdated in some minor things, but overall, still is a good reference.
 
Keep in mind that there are many ways to enjoy your diving, and hose length or color selection may not have a significant influence on safety or performance. Ultimately, it is the diver that matters most.

Why do you mention "color selection" what does that have to do with DIR?

I do not recall the book talking about any colors but I have a bright colored SMB. Does that count? :rofl3:

As I have said before drinking some of the Kool Aid I thought I was a good diver. Then I dove with a few DIR guys (thanks for breaking rule #1). Now I understand even with all the years of diving I really was not trained right and did not even have the right gear ( it all makes sense). This summer I hope to take a few classes from the instructor that gave me my first sip. Before doing this I have to switch to doubles first so I can get the most out of the class But I'm right on track. :D

I'm ok on the gear set up. Is there anything else I should read before taking some classes over the summer? I'm going to contact the instructor and see if he has any ideas as well. Thanks for your information! :D

For the purposes of Fundies, I think the book is enough. But when you formally register for the class on the GUE website, I believe you will also be some additional reading materials (at least you are for the other classes).

Getting into a regular exercise routine and swimming regularly will help, too.
