I was always told tank boots can catch a line or get stuck on a restriction, never thought about speeding up corrosion.

Running a set of doubles and a deco bottle, only boots are on my feet.

I use boots on my steels for sidemount, simply because they're more comfortable, easier to setup, carry and place. The added width of them is less than the straps I use on them, so minimal entaglement.

It's a long standing topic. I've never seen corrosion under a boot (I've owned steel tanks since 2002), but I know there's a few nightmare photos on the internet. What I have seen is lots of corrosion, albeit superficial on steel tanks without boots where the paint has been scratched off. As for an entanglement hazard, maybe with twins, not with a single.
