divingjd:
FWIW, I was there Sunday morning and surfaced from a dive as the rescue was starting. The viz was very good at that time.

I was part of the relay team (which must have been about 8 divers) that was organized to tow her to the dock and I do not know anything that was not in the news reports, so I can't comment on possible causes of the incident.

Lots of people joined the well-organized rescue effort, including Mike. The first responders on site did a great job of responding quickly, administering CPR, notifying emergency services, and controlling the scene. The emergency services responded very promptly. Emergency vehicles and a helicopter arrived in a matter of minutes. As much as possible was done to help.

My sympathies go out to her family and friends.

Yes,it is a safe place and there isn't any place with this rapid response, Until there are more facts available, no one should speculate.
Condolences to her family and friends.

My condolences also to the family and friends of the victim. So often with these threads, the same old people time and time again, with no facts are quick to blame
fatalities on training agencies. I could wish they would give it a rest, but I know that
will never happen, so Mike you are the first person to go on my ignore list, because I
find your constant babble to be quite annoying. Fact is - sometimes even well trained
divers die. This is the accident and incident forum, not the agency bashing forum.

it doesn't matter how much the training agencies change or improve or whatever it is some of you are lobbying for, training is useless without common sense.

It is sad. While that is not my kind of diving, it would really be a shame if public pressure, insurance increases, or just the weight of these events on the owners caused this site to shut down.

Condolences to all affected!

Me? I'm honored...My babble isn't killing anybody. The dive industry babbles and people die. Your profile says PADI trained dive shop employee...go figure.

So all these divers lacked common sense? So, there is no sense in improving training? Well, there you have it.

In June, certified scuba instructor Van Losh died in an accident while diving with friends

The media continues to sensationalize things... Van died of a heart attack- perhaps the pressure made things worse and certainly being alone at the surface was a bad idea in hindsight. But they sensationalized the stories when it happened and they are using it to sensationalize this article, too.

trucker girl:
Mike- I don't think that comment was necessary. There are good, responsible divers and there are accidents waiting to happen... regardless and despite the agencies they came from/represent etc.

If you're hacked off, fine, but that was not necessary. BTW- my cert is PADI. So you can disregard this post, I guess.

It probably wasn't necessary. I responded to an insult when I should have considered the source and let it go.

I won't make that mistake in this response.
