Has anyone noticed a hike in airfare from the northeast to CZM? I can't find a decent flight from Philly, Newark or Baltimore going to Cozumel in the month of October. It almost seems that they cut some flights or something. Anyone have any suggestions?

Flights into Coz have been so reduced that the airport is empty -- with all the interior lights blazing (I haven't figured out why they're buying that electricity) -- most of the time. Lots of seats available if you're willing to fly into Cancun.

Hey Deb!

Yeah I can fly to Cancun for a more reasonable rate but still nothing great. I hear it's been slow down there and from the look of it airfare might be one of the reasons. Flights to CZM from Philly are running around $750+. I can fly to Roatan for much less. I really wanna come down and do some diving but this airfare is ridiculous!

I fly out of EWR and just about always go non-stop to CUN and do the "bag drag." The time & cost to get to Playa and take the ferry is still worth it vs cost and connections to fly to CZM.

$750? What are your dates? That's insane!

Not knowing what you really want to buy, I just looked at the three airports mentioned for the month, to Coz only. After you click one to enlarge, you can scroll thru the others...

As cheap as $317 including taxes and fees...!
I did reject the overnight itineraries.

Nice. I've only been looking Saturday to Sunday. Oct 2nd -10th or Oct 9th -17th.

With work I really can't do a Monday to Monday. I could do a Wednesday to Wednesday but the I'd rather do a Saturday to Sunday. I'm going to look into the Wednesday to Wednesday, that seems like the only good option. Thanks Don.

Ah, I see. We need to change the thread title to "Has anyone noticed a hike in airfare from the northeast to CZM for the most popular days of the weeks? " :D

The airlines start cutting flights in August as kids go back to school and hurricane season hits the news, even tho the latter is unreasonable really. Some days just don't have many CZM flights, and then weekends are generally the most popular travel days.

Open Sidestep.com, try all the dates for Philly and nearby (it's easy to change dates of searches once you get the airports in), and when you find something good - open a new Tab: Right click Flights and select that option, then keep looking. Philly and nearby will include Neward, but you have to search Baltimore separately.

Sidestep will remember you previous searches so you can find them, but not jerk you around. Just don't change airports until you are finished looking at that pair.

If you shop the airlines direct, their computers will start raising fares as you shop. We used to clear cookies, but that doesn't work anymore; they have sinister programs for identifying you & your shopping now. If you want to deal with the airline direct, it is really best to phone and pay the little extra fee when you find something you like.

Happy shopping...!!

We booked a two leg US Air outta BWI to CUN, leaving TOMORROW!!! for 178pp (plus res seat for 15 and the bag for 23, I think.) Stops in Charlotte. Best one I could get leaving Wed.

Coming home on 23rd Thurs, direct CUN to BWI, about 184 pp total on AirTran. I really like one leg flight. It generally seem I can get on the Island in the same travel time or less if I can hit the right ferry. I would rather be looking out the window on the aldo bus or kick back listening to the ferry band sucking on a Sol, than pulling my knees out of the isle for people on their way to the can. Plus its a fun thing to do. The whole "Bag Drag" name makes it sound terrible.

I believe there are some decent deals direct to Cancun from Philly too. I think I was looking at a couple there, but that is a hike.

Don - I know you've mentioned this a number of times, but I can't figure out why you have this happen. I pretty much always shop direct with Continental or American to Coz and have never had any issues with the price jumping as I shop. Are you sure it's not just you they're messing with?? :eyebrow: LOL!
