For awhile Wyndham managed what used to Sabor/Aura (former Reef Club) which is now Sunscape/Secrets. Now part of AMR resorts. Wyndham now manages Hotel Cozumel.

Thank you, that is what I thought! I just wanted to be sure before I said anything to my sis! She got engaged there, so she was trying to remember

Dale you are right about the former Reef Club and related sections of that complex joining the Wyndham Franchise system.
Fiesta Americana was originally a holiday inn, maybe that’s what you were thinking

So, she said she got engaged in 2009. I;m thinking it was no longer a Wyndham, and was the Aura - but I could be wrong. I have had my stays down south both AI and VRBO, but much prefer closer to town. a l carte. She;s one of those that won't cook her own stuff on vacay. lol Thanks you guys

Back before the Reef Club became the Wyndham it was getting some terrible reviews & one particular member of Tripadvisor was constantly posting about many guests getting sick with the flu or other things & the reviews were pretty negative. Suddenly one morning it was the Wyndham & overnight there were lots of fantastic reviews praising it etc. After a lot of threads about the sudden name change & rave reviews there was enough evidence they had been created & posted by Wyndham staff.

From that link: “Our group of 7 was in one of the palapas that burned. There was no fire alarm. We were not alerted. We smelled smoke, walked outside our room and saw the massive fire three palapas from us."

Visitors do really need to bring their own Smoke & CO alarms. So many hotel rooms don't have them or they're not maintained. If this had been a late night fire, many may have perished.
We were also in one of the palapas that burnt down. 3722 & 3721. We lost just about everything. I feel so defeated by the way that this was handled during the fire & the weeks that have followed. No fire alarms, No working fire extinguishers, NO WATER, and No follow up by Barcelo Hotel Group which owns Allegro. We were told that PROFECO would help. They have done nothing. They say it was an accident. Accident??? They were warned weeks/months earlier, by authorities, that the hotel was not up to code & that if they had a fire, there would be issues. That is not an accident, THAT IS NEGLIGENCE! How is a hotel allowed to stay open knowing this? GREED, that's how & at your expense. Barcelo Hotel Group, has washed their hands of the issue & says that it is "being handled internally". How does the richest man in the world, Amancio Ortega (Barcelo Hotel Group) get to wash his hands of this??? It's criminal. The facebook page that started (ALLEGRO FORE 2022), which included incredible drone video footage & people's statements of their account was mysteriously taken down yesterday. Cozumel will never see me back again. I don't care how good the diving is. If this is how the authorities handle corruption I want no part of it.

T H You and everyone else there during the fire need a lot more from Barcelo than what I'm seeing on line. I'd bet Barcelo's lawyers had the Facebook page removed & that Barcelo is a heavy advertiser on Facebook & it's other on line businesses. I hope those affected by the fire no matter whether it was just the inconvenience of an interrupted vacation or the loss of everything in their room find a way to keep this in the public ete on some open forum. Clearly Barcelo hasn't earned my respect & I sure as hell wouldn't be recommending their hotels to others.

The Resort page is still up with only one post about the fire: Bei Facebook anmelden

There is a new fb group called "Cozumel Resort Fire 2022". Apparently, there was a copyright issue that prompted fb to delete the first group.

I do not think we are going to get any compensation out of it. Barcelo can just completely ignore us and be OK. Yes, some reputational damage but nothing major for them. Like one of their managers at Occidental told us after we've been there for 12 hours: "You should appreciate what we are doing for you"
