I don't see where you are reading A021.. lol
Which part of a retester stamp can't you read? Start in the upper left corner and read it clockwise.

@Wookie the AL40 seems legit... what about the other stamps, the ones on the steel tanks?
Guy didn't punch the date dies very hard either. Point is, I would accept these tanks at my fill station.

Gotcha A021... With the steel tanks, without the AL40 marking you would never know what it was...

You got great Vision! I was just laughing because I don't see the same thing (or much of thing). But it does make since by location all.

You are correct. Without all 3 cylinders, none can be read. I would still accept them for fills, but then, I'm not every fill station. Point is, they will pass hydro now just as well as they did in September. If someone at a fill station gives you grief, get them re-hydro'd.

To be perfectly honest, I've never looked at the retestors stamp ever, and only the month stamp if the year stamp is the right year.

shoddy work on the two steels. the hydro tester should have done a better job stamping and the dive shop that was paid to get them tested should have complained when they came back with the stamps that illegible. the al40 is a marginal pass as you can sort of make out the full rin.

Retester A021 is RW Fire Protection Inc, DBA Gorham Fire Appliance Company, 228 Williard St., Quincy, Ma 02169. Seems legit.

Frank nailed it. The hydro shop screwed the pooch on the stamping. However, the shop will have a record for each of the cylinders. They are required by DOT requirements to record each and every re-qual test*. Me, I would either drive to Boston and have the shop properly stamp them (Yes they will do that). Or I would contact the shop and have them send a record of the re-qual test.

FWIW To read a re-qual stamp one reads the top left to right, and the bottom right to left or clock-wise from the upper left.

A0 == A021

*I once had cylinders re-qualed. I went back a month later with the REE and they add the "+"

I'm local (Boston area) and would have no problem with Gorham. A few shops here use them for hydros and they do good work. That said, the stamps are a little sloppy which seems weird as mine are stamped properly.

That stamp is made with an air chisel/hammer. Maybe the air pressure sucked that day...
