The one thing in this thread that concerned me the most about the instructor was this.
I think you should have a chance to prove that you can, rather than the assumption that you can't. Now granted, I wasn't there to see why that assumption was made and safety has to be the instructors #1 priority.
This was the one of the most disturbing things the OP posted. (Other than being OOA at 100'! No excuse for not watching your SPG)
Agree on both points. Not sure how many (if any other than the OOA) of those "close calls" were while diving.
Also not sure about "not being allowed to do the exercises in open water". Firtsly, with my course, we did all of them in the pool (over 5 nights) and then did just the scenarios at the ocean. I thought this is the usual format. If the OP's course followed that, why was he even at the OW site if he didn't/couldn't do the skills in the pool? As well, why would you be learning the specific skills again (in addition to the scenarios) at the ocean after you've done them all in the pool?
