GUE, although I am biased.

Reason: first build solid foundation, then add other pieces.

In my view, the skills you build in a fundamental course are the most basic ones, so I always suggest to do that course as soon as possible.

Just my view
Take fundies. You get nitrox certification with it and learn some rescue (diver lift to surface). It will also make you more oriented towards team- diving, which is a similar objective to rescue, because rescue is usually emphasizing becoming more situationally aware, being a better buddy, etc. You will get all of this in Fundies.

After that you can take the GUE Rescue Primer.

The OP is considering fundies part 1, which doesn't include rescue as far as I can remember...

@DunningKrueger, I actually agree with @Nosmosis: the full fundies would provide you with more skills and a more solid foundation, so think about it

Again, only limiting factor is not enough diving

Why not do both? I'm a fan of working on fundies first, but odds are you can find a rescue course that will start in the next two weeks without much of a problem.

You're likely going to need more time than that to schedule fundies.

Rescue is mostly a surface skills class, so you won't be reinforcing a lot of bad habits

Go diving. Do rescue. Learn how to dive a drysuit. If you still enjoy diving afterwards, do Fundies.

True. In most classes for rescue you are logging really only 1 dive...lots of short, shallow dives and back to the surface.

hands down, GUE if you want to be a better diver.

if you like pretty cards, RD.
You don't think both would be good? I'm always going on here about how great Fundies is, but I did learn some things from the PADI Rescue course I took. That said, PADI can be hit or miss depending on the instructor. My wife's Rescue instructor did not teach as interesting/challenging a course as mine did.

Really no need to read past Post #2 as Ginti nailed the answer. If hard to find a class in your area, I would suggest you take your next vacation and take the course. You might want to take a look at Bonaire as the GUE center is great and you will have the opportunity to do shore dives before and after the course.
