Hello,

is there a freeware program or tool to manipulate Exif Jpeg canon made files information?

is there available a field in the exif jpeg file in which I can write the author of the photo?

is there a tool or program to view the jpeg files and while viewing the jpg show on the PC screen the same information show in the camera display?

histogram, aperture, and rest of settings used when picture was taken?

thanks

Mario

thanks, I download exit tools and the windows GUI

hard to useeee ;) not so user friendly ;)

can anyone please tell me how to add photo author name or owner to a bunch of .jpg files done with canon camera?

what about also adding copyright to a bunch of jog files?

please tell me easiest way to do this

thanks

My Canon S95 files do not contain a tag for artist or copyright. ExifTool GUI has the ability to add these tags to the meta data and give them a value: your name and copyright information.

Here's how~
Run ExifTool GUI and you will see:
Left pane - file folders
Center pane - files in selected folder
Right pane - Tag Name | Content

1. Select all of the photos you wish to add the artist name/copyright info in the center pane
2. In the Right pane click on the ^ pointing to EXIF to open the editor box
3. In the editor box enter your information and then click save

thanks a lot :) done

the copyright fild is just a value or it really gives the file some kind of protection when copied?

There is no protection.

The exif data is embedded in the photo but if someone wants to rip it off all they need to do is use an exif editor to strip the metadata... or even replace your copyright notice with their own name.

However, for someone to do that is evidence of willful theft.

If you want to post your pictures on the internet and somewhat protect them without completely defacing them, then I suggest 1. you use a watermark indentifying your work as copyrighted and 2. post low res small sized pictures. This way you have the visible reminder and the invisible exif metadata stating your ownership.

You can check online for free watermarking utilities/programs. Personally I use Lightroom 3 which now has decent watermarking ability on export. I do watermark most of my pictures now and allow use per request.

One of my pictures of Giant Pacific Octopus eggs was ripped from the galleries here. I recently did a Google image search for GPO eggs and up pops one of my old pictures on someone else's website... without attribution of course.

The EXIFER tool can also be used for this. I have found it easy to use.

what about if I want to get rid off fields which show that photoshop was used on the jpg? what are the fields to be modified? or cleared?

I haven't looked into eliminating information selectively using exiftools. All I use it for is spoofing the CanonModelID from S95 to S90 so Lightroom will import the RAW files.

If I am posting pictures to a photography forum it is a good thing to have all of the exif data there so folks can see what was done. If posting to a forum like this it doesn't hurt to strip it out I guess.

I would not suggest altering the original files though. With Lightroom it is a simple check box on Export to reduce the amount of metadata include but as with all Lightroom actions the original file is left intact.
