Submitting Resources

:FAQnew: New in ScubaBoard 2021
ScubaBoard's Resources tab opens a new dimension in information sharing. Explore the existing Resources in order to get a sense of how they are organized and the different Resource types that are available. The following two images will help you understand how different elements display in the final product.

Step 3: Enter the Title and Tag line — both are required. See the image at the top to see how they are displayed in the completed Resource.

Step 4: This is the most difficult decision to make.
  • Uploaded files must be free of copyright restrictions or as permission to distribute without restriction.
  • External download URL links to a site where one or more related files can be downloaded.1
  • External purchase is not available in all categories. Special arrangements must be made with @The Chairman to support this option.
  • Does not have a file is used when the entire content of the Resource is within the Description.
1 In general, the "Upload files" option is better than External download, providing restrictions don't apply. The reason is Webmasters often reorganize their site so the URLs to these files change or they are removed. Government and academic sites are notorious for this. Either problem will "break" your link.

Permission to distribute copyrighted material on ScubaBoard is often granted with a simple Email request. Typically, the only restriction is you acknowledge the source and provide a link in your Description. Moderators my request a copy of that Email for verification.

Step 5: See the image at the top to see how they are displayed in the completed Resource.. Leave blank if it isn't appropriate. The Description editor is the same as when writing a post. Note the "Attach files" button. This is used in conjunction with the "Uploaded files" option in Step 4.

Step 6: These fields may not apply and can be left blank:
  • Tags are keywords that can be used in ScubaBoard's Search tool.
  • Additional information URL can be used to supplement your description.
  • Additional support URL links to support related to your Resource.

Step 7: See the image at the top to see how the icon is displayed in the completed Resource. This step is optional, but recommended. Submit your Resource by clicking the Save button.

Resource Review Process

It is in the best interest of members and guests for Resources to be free if spam and trivial information. New submissions will not be posted until after it is reviewed by ScubaBoard Staff.

Guiding premise for approval:

Is the Resource useful to ScubaBoard readers? It is that simple.

Step 1: for Staff
Alerts in the Moderator's Approval Queue will include your Resource submission. It will be reviewed to check for duplicate Resources and for ToS violations. A cursory check will be made for copyright conflicts. The author will be notified if there is a problem with their submission.

Normally, your submission will be quickly approved and will appear in the Resource Portal Category. It will be moved to the Portal if you mistakenly submitted in a "Curated" category. New approved Resources automatically generate a post in the Resources Discussions forum.

Step 2: for Staff
Your submission will be Reported, using the same system as members Report posts, in order to alert Staff members to your new submission. The purpose is to determine whether your submission should be moved to a "Curated" category or left in the Portal. Minor objections to your Resource will be discussed with you through a Direct Message so reservations can be resolved.

Use Report to correct broken links, typos, or make suggestions.
