Thanks for the replies everyone. I was starting to think I was weird (as well as everyone else here) since i ordered mine on the forearm. So maybe this time Bare will send me a suit with it on the forearm, not the back of the upper arm (tricep) like mine is now. I hate returning dive gear, just makes it all that much longer before I can play with it!
Draeger & a couple other outfits make small non-adjustable auto dumps for the forearm/cuff, they're just a little bigger than a 50¢ piece.
Retails for less than half the price of the full size dump, about $25-$35.
Location of mine on my DUI trilam was somewhere between the bicep and tricep in an area where I couldn't get the valve to be the highest point. Most of the air gets trapped in the shoulder area or in the elbow area and I was having major issues with my bouyancy when going shallower than 15 ft. I was having to flex my arm and flap it like a chicken to get it to dump. You can imagine how goofy that looked plus I blew to the surface before I intended on several occaisions - not good!
I had DUI move it to the forearm but also had them put in a plug at the original location just in case it's a problem in the new location or any other reason I want to move it back. Took about 3 weeks total - only one week at DUI, 2 weeks shipping out and back. Costs were $60 for the plug, $28 to move it and $60 for a full leak test after the work plus another $30 or so for shipping. Considering how frustated I was,I think it will be money well spent.
I will also be looking into making it dump faster but in the mean time I need to be more proactive and start dumping earlier in my ascents.
IMO Managing two exhaust valves during ascents doesn't sound like the greatest idea.
I have a shoulder dump, but it's more of a bicep dump, and when raising my right arm to dump, the valve is on the front of the arm instead of the top, so air goes past it and collects up in my forearm, and I then have to squeeze the air down to the valve. Very annoying, and it screws up my buoyancy while doing so. So a forearm dump is in my near future. I want to get integrated gloves, but am worried that my left one will pop off one day without the forearm dump.
Ankle dumps sounds great! Would certainly prevent the floaty feet issue - whenever I can feel air in my legs I know I've got too much air in the suit. Only problem is I wear gators and they would probably interfere... unless the ankle dumps would negate the need for gators. Sounds like you would need the dumps on the back of your lower legs.
[edit] - Ankle dumps sounded cool until Uncle Pug rained on my parade - waiting to hear the two reasons
