Earlier threads on LOB sinking discussed importance of having a waterproof go-bag (ppt, meds, etc) at bedside as part of overall trip planning. The extra time, effort and cost required for this is quite negligible and often gets overlooked.

Separate from incidents of sinking, still other threads have addressed issue of LOB fires and how to be prepared to evacuate safely.

The headline kind of buries the lede that 29 more people are still missing... Was there harsh weather or something?

No indication yet. There has been a bad weather warning in effect for Hurghada since yesterday, which prevents the day boats to leave, and there is a good chance that the freighter that ran around just off the Mövenpick in El Quesir was affected by that.

In the meantime there are still 17 missing and 28 rescued (Source).
There is bad weather since a few days in that region. James & Mac are reporting that the Red Sea "is closed" for day trips due to bad weather.
This bad weather has also impacted the attempt to drag the freighter VSG Glory from the riff in front of Mövenpick El Quesir (N 26° 09.381 E 34° 14.973). While it was visible on Vessel Tracking sites yesterday, the signal is now gone.
Very sad as it was a nice spot and a good house riff for Extra Divers located there. Fingers crossed that the impact will not be too bad.
