It appears that the Scuba Board is well educated. Well over half have completed a Bachelors degree or higher. So, does that mean that SCUBA is an elitest sport, that it is expensive or just that educated people are drawn to it? :D

the Scuba bored are the self appointed monitors of SCUBA but I doubt it's confined to the ranks of the "educated". I've spent more money on several different hobbies, so that's not much of a reason for calling it a "rich" mans sport. Could it be it takes the least amount of work to get "certified" to go diving that draws so many armchair partakers to this sport?

I'm one of the 7 poor souls that only has a HS "education" so far, but I stressed to my kids they need a college education to compete in todays market. Albeit I make a nice income, I still wonder had gone to college instead of the Armed Forces, a decision I have no regrets of making, what differences it might have made in my life.

But if you feel "elite", good for you! Not many people; rich, poor, uneducated, educated, can say they are part of this great sport!

I don't think 121 votes is anywhere close to a representative number of the board membership to make such a broad statement.

One of the amazing things about scuba diving is the wide cross-section of people you come across. I'd bet that for every 'higher educated' person in your poll, there are just as many high school educated blue collar workers making mid to low 5 digit salaries, who dives and travels just as much. They just sacrafice more to do so.

Proud not to be in your 'Elite' catagory....

for about 17 years. But, I relized that, I have to get a real job soon. So I compled my AAS in Criminal Justice, and now Im 18 hours away from my BS in Forensic Science. But I'm still unsure what do after I grow up.

Thanks Dee. I'm glad someone had the courage to say it. (I was really hoping to goad some more of the blue collar workers into voting.)

Couple years ago I watched a NASA test pilot (serious), with the entire alphabet behind his name, stand in 3 inches of water and stick two screwdrivers into a 400 volt air conditioning system. Never have actually seen somebody smoke without a cigarette before.

I would gladly swap my degrees for your U-store-it business and a couple of apartment buildings. :D Deal?
