I have both and perfer the DSS....I cross the top straps and thus a chest strap is not needed....it has a nice adj. for your shoulders that once I got it set I wrapped it with electrical tape....if it don't have tape or wire ties somewhere it ain't right....as for the plastic waist buckle it had to go I cut it off and replaced it with a SS one....it is better to get in and out of than my Hog ....so I use the DSS pro fit/SS plate on my drysuit....the webbing he uses is softer than most...his bp's by the way are a notch above anybody else IMHO....they feel better on my back in a single or a double....

I'm a big guy - wide, not tall :D so I don't think crossing the straps will work for me. I got rid of the chest strap on my Transpac long ago - didn't need it. I didn't think about replacing the plastic waist with a "real" SS buckle, but agree, I'd rather have a slide in than a push and click... I didn't know about the soft webbing; a nice touch.

I haven't called Tobin yet, but, it looks like the shoulder length adjustment is very similar to the TP2 - pull the ring to tighten, and pop the fastex to disconnect. It also looks to be all 2", and not the 1.5" stuff used on the TP2

I did think a lot about the DSS plate - it does appear to be a Mercedes, but, at 179 + 89 = 268 for plate + STA, that's a bunch more than the $99 for the Hammerhead, which has received very good reviews. ( yes, the DSS is about 2.5#s heavier ).
