Drysuits: Take a class or learn from a buddy

In the UK, nearly all OW students dive dry from the very start. Ask your instructor if it's an option.

Two opposite opinions. Must be ScubaBoard. :)

I've emailed the instructor, we'll see what he says and go from there.
 
OK, my instructor got back to me. We'll do a PADI drysuit orientation in the pool, and use the drysuits in the OW class dives. Sounds reasonable.
 
I'm going to just go out and play with mine in shallow water, see what i can do. If i need help, well i'll look for a dive buddy who can help me , if not ill take a course.

Oh, but wait...

He can simply use ankle weights until he get's comfortable with the dry suit.
