Great story.

I love that, "I've been diving for years," line. I think a lot of the time it means, "I dive two or three times a year on vacation for the last few years." Not the same thing.

Personally, I think you handled it very well. Offered help and humor.

i saw this for the first time in Yap in april

lots of divers, all with top of the $$$ gear, been diving for "years" and then i find out they dive 2 weeks of the year and read dive magazines the rest of the year.

on one dive to see the mantas, there were 4 mantas and about 4 other fish in total (it was a channel) and the diver came out saying "did you see all those fish!!!!".

reminded me how spoilt i am for where i live!
