It seems to me that there are many people that dislike being told that BCD's - jackets and back inflate devices are not good. Many people can't stand being told that there is a better way of buoyancy control than the system that they have come to know.
Jackets work, Transpacs work, BP and wings work. If it works why should someone go out and replace it for $500. If they are going into a specialized type of diving, find out what equipment is needed and get it. If they are doing recreational dives, use what they are comfortable with. Millions dive a jacket, thousands dive horse collars and the vintage types don't use any BC at all. BP and wing is one way to dive, it's not the only way to dive.

The most annoying thing that I see on this board is the constant response to any question related to a BC. Example: "Has anyone tried a Seaquest Balance?" There will *always* be someone who says "Have you tried a backplate/harness?" I would bet there isn't a single BC thread that doesn't involve the uninvited pro backplate comment...

I use a backplate. I like it. But I don't have to annoy the world with "how wonderful and great and better a backplate is than a BC." Get a life people.

....I like and use the quick shoulder releases which are not on the BP. QUOTE]

"The argument in question stems from people that don't know what they are talking about. The above item, as one example, is flat wrong. I use a harness with a QR. This is usually called the "Deluxe Harness" depending upon the manufacturer."

Actually, I do know what I am talking about. The standard BP harness consists of a length of webbing, several D-rings and one metal buckel. Anything else is not considered a standard BP harness. No doubt there are manufactures that make harnesses that can be used with a BP but a they are not a standard harness.

I think the rest of you guys are right, these BP vs the world debates are getting old. Dive what you like, just dive safe.

I may be an anomaly-I dive split fins AND jet fins and I dive with a traditional BCD, a TransPacII AND BP/Wing, Oceanic, ScubaPro and Atomic regs.-I want my own forum- titled " Not quite DIR but close except when I don't want to"
When I see someone pushing an opinion pretty hard I usually take a look at their profile that will tell me if I need to pay attention to their opinion.
There are divers giving opinions that have less total dives than I made this summer.
There are divers giving opinions with very limited experience in anything more than 1 type of diving.
Yes they are entitled to their opinion, it just doesn't carry much weight.
Choose your mentors carefully. JUST MY OPINION-M

LOL!!!! Full decompression...if you bring about 20 of 'em

I dive with 32 spare airs 'manifolded' together with high pressure hoses along with 31 isolator valves on a flexible extension so that i can isolate any one of them -- figuring out which one needs isolation can be a challenge, but you get used to monitoring 32 mini-SPG gauges pretty quickly -- makes for kind of a bulky console though...

You can never have too much spare-air...

Just great! :)

Maybe a QR buckle on my bp will explode and kill me or something...or my wing will have 10lbs too much lift and kill me or something.....
Just a thought, if you use helium in your wing you will go to heaven ... or at least cloud 9. ;)

Same here, Bios and Jets, bp/w and Ranger, depending on need or want.

I want my own forum- titled " Not quite DIR but close except when I don't want to"
Try the Hogarthian section, that oughta fit the bill pretty well.

I for one find it odd that some people seem to care so much about others' diving equipment or style even without any obvious problems ... is it well ment sharing of knowledge and experience? Or are these people just so full of themselves that they actually belive they, and only they, are right, and that right is an absolute?

The way I see it, different people, different locations, different environs, different dives = different wants and needs.
What works, works.

I think you hit the nail on the head.
