Seems like a very reasonable cost for the insurance - $70 for the preferred plan - IF they actually pay what they promise (unlike several big health insurance comanies I could tell you about).

There were a couple of surveys done that you could search for on this board. I have DAN insurance and if I remember the survey correctly, a great majority of those divers with insurance had DAN.

Luckily, I've never had to use the insurance but I have called DAN with questions and they were great.

Most people I dive with have it... so do I. It is well worth the money to have the peace of mind that you can go in for treatment without breaking the bank. They are friendly and always available to answer questions 24 hrs a day... Just browse the accidents and incidents threads ans see how many people have used them.

BTW I use the master plan and so do many of my buddies

Given the amount of money to participate in this sport on a regular basis, $70/year seems like a no brainer.

You can't beat the price, and there are other benefits to it besides the insurance, like their find-a-physician program and Project Dive Exploration.

DAN is great for dive insurance from the point of view you have to take a chamber ride and some vacation insurrance.

For equipment insurance I ...the first time...went with the one DAN recommended but have since switched to DEPP and am much happier. DEPP makes it tons easier to list all your equipment with them and while I have had no need to try them out claims wise....the experiences I have heard from others who have were posititive.

I have DAN Preferred plan -- when I took the straight table 6 ride -- I never saw a bill. Works for me. I will never dive without DAN.

Yes from dive one. If treatment is ever needed it will be invaluable. Meanwhile just knowing you can call a number and speak with medical people who are dive savy is worth the price alone. There is also a lot of online info I haven't even touched yet.

I have it and so far haven't used it. One of the guys I dive with had a very nasty accident while on holiday and found their helpful totally invaluable - wasn't even a diving incident.
