Hello,

I'm a bit confuse form all the reading I did on this subject,

so do I need to put christolube when connecting the SPG and/or secondary to the first stage?

my manual for the SPG say so, but nothing is said for the octo, and some people seems to put nothing and other say to do so.

so what is the anwser?

thanks

The real answer is it doesn't really matter. You don't need it, but if you use it, it's not going to hurt.

Yeah it won't hurt, just use it very sparingly.

so I went to the LDS, and asked for some, they told me 55$,

so I said why I wanted some and asked them for a pea size from their backshop.

they agreed, so free lube, jsut enough for what I needed.

thanks

I would not lubricate the threads, just the o-ring. It doesn't matter much. I've bought 20 year old regs and pulled plugs out of them that had very crispy o-rings and they still sealed fine.

The tiny o-rings that go on the spool of your SPG are a different story. Those things seem to go pretty frequently. The spool is the flow restrictor that fits in between the HP hose and the body of the SPG so that it can swivel and still seal. As long as you bought the reg, it might be a good time to get a save-a-dive kit together that includes a few o-rings for tank valves, HP and LP port plugs, SPG spool, etc.

Yeah, Crisco is expensive, but here's a little trick I picked up from Vance's book. Put a dab into a small plastic bag and massage the o-rings in the bag from the outside. That way, you get max use out of your grease and don't waste any on your fingers, towels, tee shirt etc. You only need enough to make the o-ring shinny.
